We ate at the Ferguson Fawsitt last night for a family meal. I had the steak pie which was brilliant. Steak pie is a regular choice for my partner and I at pubs up and down the country. It's often tray baked and overcooked or just a pastry lid. This was a big slice of a proper pie. The steak was brilliantly cooked, moist and layered thick.
Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their food.

However the reason I really came here was the service. How many restaurants do we go out to now and pay a 10% service charge for for sub par service?

Not here. The main waitress was bubbly, made conversation and actually engaged with us. When it came to clearing the table, two other waitresses came together to quickly and efficiently cleared the table in one go so we didn't have that awkward drip of plates disappearing over multiple visits.

These are small details but define the difference between good and bad service.

FYI for the managers benefit the main waitress was the pretty girl with the slightly darker complexion. She was supported by the two blonde girls. We sat in the back room.

Really nice country pub which sprawls around lots of rooms. Chatty, friendly staff. Dogs are allowed in most areas. We weren't going to eat, but the menu tempted us. £8.50 for my vegan meatballs sandwich was very good value as it came with chips and a lovely salad. Good spot to stop off at on (or finish) a walk.

This is my second visit here, I came quite a few months ago when attending someone’s birthday meal and it has always been memorable for the amazing food and service. Me and my partner came here today with my parents and couldn’t have been happier with the gorgeous, generously portioned food and fab customer service. It really does restore your faith in hospitality! There was a very small error with our meal, which I wouldn’t even mention as it was really not a big issue for us, but only feel the need to just because of how much the staff wanted to rectify, and how apologetic and amazing the staff were. A side of chips were forgotten to be brought out, which did us a favour really as we definitely didn’t have room for them with the portion sizes! But three members of staff came on three separate occasions to apologise, for which was such a very small error, and immediately took the chips and also one of our drinks off the bill. Brilliant staff and brilliant food. My parents first time here and they already want to return for the quiz nights, bingo, comedy stand ups and live music nights this gorgeous pub has to offer. Thank you for a beautiful meal! We shall be returning!! P.S. amazing vegan options too! Xx

Stayed with my partner at the weekend to attend a gig at the pub. Great food served promptly by friendly staff. Excellent choice of beers and ciders. Worth noting that the lodge where the accommodation is located is up quite a steep hill so people with mobility issues are advised to check before booking. Rooms are simple but modern. Very clean and well presented with a very comfortable bed. Fast public wifi throughout the pub and lodge. A really nice place in a very pretty village. Recommended.

I visited the ferguson fawcitt this evening for food and drinks and I was extremely impressed. The food was outstanding and very reasonable prices for what you get. I had the steak pie which was lovely and sticky toffee pudding but all of the food looked amazing. The staff were very welcoming and polite. Such a lovely restaurant and great atmosphere.

Today we visited The Ferguson Fawsitt.

Now we have wanted to come here for quite a while but the few times we have thought about it it’s been closed. Today however we it was open and we turned up without making a reservation.

The carpark was plentiful and right behind the pub so just down a few steps and you are at the doors to the pub. Outside the pub is quite a decent amount of outdoor seating and it looked quite pleasant (especially on a day like today when it’s 28 degrees. We chose to sit indoors tho and have something to eat.
As we walked in we were greeted with a very nice selection of cakes which looked very tempting.

The pub inside was warm and welcoming, clean well decorated looking quite fresh.

Getting into the dining area we were met by a nice young chap who asked had we made a reservation and when we said no he nicely told us we could pick a table and he would be over in a moment. I always like it when you are not rushed to a table you don’t like. Sitting down we looked over the menu and were asked if we would like a drink which we ordered.
A few minutes later the drinks arrived and we ordered food. For me it was a fish special ( fish chips a Pattie mushy peas tartare sauce and bread. For my partner it was chicken and bacon pie Alma’s veg and gravy.

We sat for about 10 to 15 minutes before the food arrived and I have to say my fish special looked amazing although the fish did look rather small.
The chips were to die for absolutely delicious,
So fluffy inside they were perfect. The fish as I said looked small l but with the Pattie was probably just the right size. The batter was crisp the fish was soft and fell apart as I cut it open a beautiful bit of fish. The Pattie looked like it was going to be a treat to eat but when I cut into it I found onions, large bits of onion just mixed in with the filling. This was quite hard and just did not go with the Pattie at all in my opinion. (Now here in the Hull area wale have what is called a Pattie and this is mash seasoned potato dipped in batter and deep fried. I have loved them since being a child way back in the 1970s and I have never in my life had onion as shown in the photos in one). When I raised this with the staff member I was told they always make them this way and people really like them. I was surprised at this. What was a really nice Pattie was spoiled with the onion and this was such a shame.

The chicken and bacon pie was a bit of a let down as the chicken was quite dry and it had no bacon however the pastry was really good. The mash was soft and smooth, the veg was good and the gravy was really tasty rich and thick it was great over the mash.

Would we come here again? I’d like to visit again to try something else as I would like to think that the problems we had was just a one off so yes we would and will be.

Would I recommend this pub to other people? On this visit I’d probably say yes. There was much more good than bad. As I’ve stated the whole visit was good from the staffs service to the beautiful pub. The food was a bit of a mixed bag but the good bits of the food were really good.

One thing I would say which really impressed me was when we raised our problems I feel we were listened to and we even spoke with I believe the landlord who chatted for quite a while with us and was very understanding. But please take the onions out of the patties.

See you next time and thank you for the quality service provided.

Very disappointing. First time visiting and had high expectations due to its reputation. Distinctly average food. And the portion sizes were tiny. A very slack handful of chips with the fish and the tiniest amount of salad with the very bland chicken kebabs. |Would not be in a rush to go back again.

Great selection of ales, beers etc (including a couple of 0.5% ones) and wines (again, including five 0% ones). Seating inside and out. Free car park. MASSIVE pub inside. Nice staff. Decent prices.
