It is right smack bang in the middle of York, our door to the flat was next to the sweaty Betty shop and a 3 minute walk to the Minster! Fab bed, kitchen and lounge area, we opened the window to hear people walking by and the Minster Bells in practice on Tuesday night. Remember you are right in the middle of everything so you will hear all the behind the scenes stuff going on, nightlife, bin lorries etc but honestly you are better off for it to soak up an experience which is truly special ❤️

1. this is not a hotel. It’s a room in a house with a communal kitchenette that smells like smoker’s paradise, considering it’s a non smoker place|2. the music you will hear from approx 8/9pm onwards until 3-4am is from a nightclub below the rooms. It will make your floor vibrate! |3. there‘s a reason why they leave ear plugs in your room and kitchenette!|4. even if you book on a Sunday, you will be blessed with loud music and drunk people underneath your window. |5. next door is shut Mo and Tue do those wld be the quieter days |6. NEVER AGAIN! It’s a pity as it’s very central but if you like to sleep 5-7 hours, this is probably not the place for you|7. tried to ring on the 1st night to complain and nobody picked up. Didn’t try it on Sunday thinking there’s no clubbing on Sunday but that was a mistake. Asked for a refund and the owner was adamant the noise was normal street noise, which it wasn’t and upset and did not agree to refund |8. case is with the Ombudsman now|9. Shame as York is a wonderful city and we will return albeit obvs not to the Fort York

What a lovely hidden gem. Clean spacious room with modern bathroom. Staff were lovely, nothing was a problem. It's right in the middle of York which was fantastic, inside the castle walls. There is tea & coffee facilities for free on site. You also can eat in the bar downstairs for dinner and recieve a free bottle of wine. We stayed 1 night and loved it. And easy to find, just look for the teddy bear shop on the corner

Just..... Rough. The photos absolutely over sell this place. I thought it was some kind of Inn when I booked it, but it's more like student halls. The disappointment is palpable. It's very expensive for what it is. It's in a great location but it's very underwhelming and other guests do not care about anyone else but themselves, which seems to be the standard everywhere these days to be fair. Paper thin walls and noisy people at 7:45am on a Saturday morning on a "get away" break, do not mix well! Graffiti up the walls of the four+ flights of stairs to the bedrooms only serves to cheapen the experience further. I would absolutely NOT recommend this place to anyone else, especially at over £160/night!! I'd have still been disappointed at £60/night tbh, but at least it would have been more in line with expectations at that price point

Aside from the great location not much else to say positive about this place. Lift doesn’t work so good luck slogging luggage if you have any up 3 flights of stairs! Bed and pillows are not at all comfortable and the noise transfer through the walls and windows is severe. Previous reviews mentioned this, but fortunately the club wasn’t open on Mondays, however every other noise comes through and deliveries start at 7am, so a lie in is not on the cards. There are some ear plugs to use though… a shared kitchen is available that we didn’t look twice at. For the price and what’s included (no breakfast) I would seriously reconsider ever staying here.

The room was lovely and spacious. Smack bang in the middle of town. Lots of coffee shops, bars, restaurants etc
Very clean and modern.
The music is loud but the customer service was exceptional. I would highly recommend. Stayed for 2 nights.

Excellent accommodation for groups of friends comfortable with everything you need. Great host. I stayed in a double room the bed was comfortable great shower and bathroom, plenty of towels. Complimentary water, nuts, crisp and biscuits. There's communal kitchen area for coffee and toast all round perfect.

I was impressed by the beautiful and 'roomy' room that belies the 'boutique' vibe (and price point). All the amenities you could want or need.

Excellent service, too. I arrived slightly early for check-in so I went to the bar next door to get a drink. Hadn't realised the owners of The Fort also run the bar next door. They asked if I was eating and I said no, I'm just killing time until check-in. They went away, came back a minute later, told me everything's ready to check-in now if I want. Even waived payment for the drink. Really friendly and welcoming.

Looking at historical reviews it seems like noise from surrounding bars is an issue on weekends. If it helps, I was here on Thursday night and slept like a log - even without the ear plugs kindly provided in the room - so mid-week seems fine if anyone is concerned.

All in all: Lovely rooms, great service. Will definitely book again!
