Superb!!!! This is my second visit to the F&H, and absolutely will not be my last!|It’s great to be able to stay in an independently owned pub & hotel, with excellent hospitality, friendly staff, comfortable bedrooms, and superb food!|The Guinness was excellent (not always the case in other establishments), and I must commend the scallops as a starter (I noted another reviewer thought that the food was much to spicy/hot, in my personal experience was the relish was a great combination for the dish - perhaps it could be put on the side so diners can make it as hot or not depending on their taste), and the meat pie was exceptionally delicious. |I would like to particularly mention the first-rate hospitality from Helen, who seemed to be helpful at every moment - she met us at reception (and remembered our names from last time - a great touch of personal service), took us to our rooms, and served both at dinner and breakfast!|The pub & hotel is well decorated, has a large private car park at the rear, and very easily found just off the A170.

We couldn't have been better looked after at this superbly presented, well-maintained, cosy country pub. The rooms were homely, calming and not at all 'clinical' and the dining area was intimate, beautifully lit and atmospheric.||The food was outstanding. A really diverse menu and cooked to an extremely high quality. Great selection of wines with knowledgeable waiters to assist the choice to pair the meal.||The only issue we had was that our bedroom shared a wa with a function room in which a noisy birthday party was taking place until quite late - if we were going back, we'd make sure we weren't in that area!

We had a fabulous Friends’ Festive DBB made even more memorable when the village was cut off on either side by floods that evening and the River Seven burst its banks so came diverting down the Main Street turning just short of the Hotel. |Despite the flickering of the lights indicating that the power was on verge of going off, the staff team managed to provide us with an excellent 3 course meal with friendly upbeat service in the face of adversity. |We surfaced next day to find that the floods had thankfully receded leaving a high tide mark of debris on street just outside. The staff who had had to sleep overnight at the hotel provided the full dining room with breakfast although they must have been exhausted. |Total bunch of stars.

Stayed in the area for four nights and went to dinner here twice as we enjoyed our first visit so much. The food was superb as was the service. The staff were very friendly and we enjoyed the banter with the French chef as we used to live in France. Couldn't fault the whole experience and would highly recommend. We will be back next year.

We went for Sunday lunch and it was fabulous. The roast beef was perfect, the vegetables were in season and the cauliflower cheese creamy and plentiful. The staff were efficient and helpful . The menu was a good mix and had vegetarian and fish options and the wine was a sensible price . The whole lunch was great.

It’s a pity really that, despite a lovely environment and very pleasant staff, we left with a bad taste in our mouths - both physically and metaphorically. My scallops and belly pork starter would have been delightful had it not been laced with powerful and hot spice. It gave me discomfort and spoiled what was otherwise delicious. I mentioned this to the waitress.|Then came the main course. My lamb was very pleasant however our friend’s halibut was, once again laced with hot spices. This caused a physiological reaction for her, which was clear to other diners and a little frightening for her. The result was that 90% of her meal was returned uneaten.|So, ok these things happen, however rarely. What really wiped the experience out for us was the lacklustre concern from the lady who took the money. I suggested that they might use, for example, the one, two, three chilly pepper symbols? I drew a blank there.|It is a pity because we’ve enjoyed eating here before and, other than the choking and burning sensations today, everything else was lovely - other than paying for what ended up as bin fodder. I’m not ruling out a revisit but will have to remember the question list about the ingredients. It really would be reasonable to ask you to make diners aware of hot, hot spicy dishes.

Lovely Sunday dinner cooked by Chef Fab. Good to see him back in the kitchen on a Sunday. Absolutely faultless. Have been recently and noted the Sunday dinner had been changed, namely the gravy and the loss of the carrot puree, it was average at best, lack of veggies, Yorkshires and roasts served separately. But today the two main features returned and it brought everything together perfectly. If somethings not broken don’t fix it! Providing the Sunday dinner stays the same as today we will be back in a heartbeat! Otherwise, sadly, we won’t.

We went for a meal here on a Monday evening. This is a lovely example of a traditional country pub with a very high standard of service and quality food. Two fires going, lovely decor and a warm, welcoming atmosphere. We look forward to returning.
