I booked the Gainsborough for my husbands birthday and was excited to spend the day there in the spa and also dining in the restaurant. On arrival all was great and our room was ready. On the whole it was OK but the ceiling needed work and the shower was very tired.||The spa was nice but please note you need more than 45 minutes to do the spa, especially as the clocks are all 10 minutes fast and you aren't allowed phones which resulted in us rushing only to realise we had to hang around for 10 minutes for treatments. The people doing the spa were lovely so no complaints there! ||We went for the evening meal, and ordered mushroom soup for starters . This was OK,nothing special and very filling. There was a long wait for the main (around 40mins). This was a £45 lamb rack which was cooked well but all of the accompaniments were strongly flavoured differently, I couldn't taste anything by the end. There were only 2 other tables (now I know why! ) 4 staff but still none there to get a drink||In the end we left the desserts and coffee and asked for the service charge to be removed which led to 3 staff gathered around the till, glancing at us with none actually asking why. We would have been happy to explain.||We love Bath and come every year. Last year we went to the Francis Hotel up the road which is half the price and much more satisfactory..they also acknowledged my husbands birthday with a drink and cake, whilst the Gainsborough just wrote happy birthday on their complimentary card . Hilarious.||Anyway, after spending approx £900 we skipped breakfast and ran...and advise you do the same. Save yourselves when you can....

I had a lovely stay at The Gainsborough and an exceptional Spa treatment with Hana, who was so lovely and talented. The hotel provides an elevated ambiance in the heart of the city. I was delighted to feel transformed and revitalized after my stay. I recommend to anyone who is visiting bath to experience the springs and spa culture.

I spent a long birthday weekend in Bath and stayed at The Gainsborough. Beautiful hotel with incredible service that you would expect from a 5 Star Hotel.

The location is perfect and is in the heart of the city and most of the notable bars and restaurants that you would want to visit are a 10-12 minute walk away.

The underground spa is incredible! Warm Thermal Bath, Hotel Thermal Bath, Sauna, Infrared Sauna, Steam Room, Ice Room and a lovely pool! Guests are able to use it from 8am - 10am and at 7pm - 9pm. If you manage to get a treatment or massage there, you can use it outside of the hours mentioned.

I would highly recommend this hotel and will be staying here for my future stays in Bath.

Amazing 7-night stay at this hotel which provides real 5-star service in all respects. Special shout out to all the concierge and reception staff, who were always incredibly responsive. Also the nice and polite drivers they use especially David who saved us! Our room was wonderful. After a bad stay in London was so nice to get that warm, happy English hotel feeling again. Loved it and very absolutely strongest recommendation (if you read my hotel reviews they are not always positive)…..

Just returned from a 3 day stay at this hotel. It's an average 4 star hotel in the centre of Bath close to the sights and nightlife.|There is nothing luxurious about it. We booked a deluxe room. It was basic, small double bed, no frills , small shower room (no bath). Breakfast cost £30 per person ! needless to say we didn't participate. On check in we were informed that the mini bar in our room was free! But don't get too excited it contained 4 cans of pop 2 bottles of beer and 2 bottles of water. There is a direct lift to the spa in the basement, the spa is available to guests at a limited time it seemed to be empty of customers at other times of the day and the cost of a spa treatment was over priced. We had road works and a pneumatic drill outside our bedroom window for the duration of our stay. Housekeeping arrived around 4pm to re fresh the room obviously over stretched and under staffed.|We found all off the staff very pleasant and professional. |This is definitely not a 5 star hotel.|There is a very good selection of hotels in the centre of Bath, my advice is do your homework. This hotel is not good value for money.

Amazing central location. Lovely helpful staff who escorted us in our car to the car park and the barman Isaac recommended a lovely restaurant for dinner and made the reservation. Often hotel spas look great in the photos and then you get there and they are tiny but this one is better than the photos. Spotless, not super busy and a lovely way to start or end your day. We got upgraded so our room was massive. And the whole place smells of lovely Elemis products. I’m not a big fan or grey decor so for me that was the only thing I could criticize. Definitely recommend for a special treat.

Don't waste your money here! We stayed at the hotel early October and while the hotel is nice, the bed was worn out.

The staff was lovely but upsell a ridiculously priced breakfast that you will end up paying more than you think for, regardless of what they tell you.

Our room included a dripping toilet loud enough to hear all night.

The spa is lovely, but the room we had ("deluxe") was not. Breakfast was a completely embarrassing situation in which the staff could not tell us what we pre-paid for, the prices were different than what reception had told us at check in and we ended up paying 50L for a simple Continental breakfast. Humiliating that the staff could not figure it out. When we left the restaurant we were told the front desk works take care of it but they didn't seem to know (this was the same woman who checked us in).
Even with that fiasco, the worn out bed is a deal breaker for me. Very disappointing in several ways for such a nice hotel. I would not recommend nor stay here again. There are many better choices in the area. Pass on this one.

Outstanding service and not at all overbearing. We shared Satay skewers to start and they were excellent, for main I had beef short rib, again truly great. My wife, who is gluten free,we had told the restaurant in advance, had the lentil curry and voted it a bit disappointing, she reported the veg a bit undercooked and the sauce a little bland, I tasted the cauliflower hummus and would personal not have ordered it. My wife felt that the dish had been “made gluten free on the fly”! While I don’t ear dessert, my wife’s chosen dish, Chocolate, proved to be unavailable gluten free which was a disappointment. Instead she was offered a veggie sort of panna cotta which she said was unusual but nice nonetheless. ||Overall not cheap and we’d probably go again, as a side note a drank a superb Malbec throughout the evening that was brilliant.
