I have been staying at the hotel for the best part of 10 years so here comes an honest review. There are a few people I need to thank first of all Steven the manager, what a kind and caring man who couldn’t do enough for you, he made my children feel very calm and cared for playing balloons and bubbles with them so to put a smile on my kids faces means the world to me, the two lovely people who waited on us in the dining room Ash and Heather was very professional and helped so much in making sure my sons dietary requirements was adhered too and helped to make sure my children felt very included, the cleaners and porter as always are amazing to make sure that everything you need is given, the hotel is a very child friendly, clean and couldn’t ask for better staff with what said my children are made to feel like it’s there home when we are there which is a major reason to why I always stay here, I just want to give a big thank you to everyone at the George hotel and so many memories made for me and my family over the years, great destination to be as right in the middle of the city and close to all amendities|Thank you again |Jemma x

The George was a first stop before beginning a long multi-day hike, so I needed some preparatory comfort.|My room was fine, although the 1980s-style alarm clock radio and the (non-functioning) ancient electric heater were amusing. The whole place could really use a spruce-up throughout.|Having said that, the bed was very comfortable.|Nor could I complain about the very reasonable room rate, in a superb central location.|I arrived on a Sunday, so missed the evening dining experience, although there are plenty of options within a few yards.|Breakfast was unexciting - a self-serve arrangement, sadly the eggs were cold and the bacon like cardboard.|Overall verdict? Could try harder.

Great central location. Fantastic staff. Delicious food. Superb breakfast. Bed could have been bigger and room
got very hot in the night. A very enjoyable stay. Will definitely stop here again. Car park next door.

Visited the site on Sunday for a carvery lunch. There are so few places to go in Lichfield for a Sunday Lunch so decided to try the George. Exceptionally disappointed. The starters off the buffet were really not good. The macrel tasted awful, like it had been out for a week, the pate was bland and frankly lumps of pork pie and cut up scotch eggs is extremely old hat - the breadrolls were dry. On a positive, the meats on the carvery and the freshly cooked SeaBass was amazing. Wine choice OK, but they struggled to find the wine we ordered, couldn't open it when it came to the table and it wasn't chilled and at £31 a bottle, I'd expect it to have been.||So the carvery two courses is £18 - so I suppose what was I expecting for my money I hear you ask. Well I was expecting more than I got. I would have preferred to have spent £25 and got a great meal with proper starters, not just a brake brothers buffet!

Lovely well maintained older style hotel.. very clean.. excellent service from very friendly staff.. food was very good.. breakfasts were lovely.. and again efficient staff.. Rooms were clean.. a little dated but overall very good.. I felt the double bed was in fact a small double as felt a bit cramped in it.. could have done with a summer duvet.. as was a bit heavy and warm.. but this didn’t put me off! Loads of hot water.. the hotel is lovely inside and everywhere well looked after.. I would definitely stay again.. parking was easy and nice to have a space.. £10 a night…

I booked a single room. The room had all I needed and was an adequate size. The breakfast service in the Darwin restaurant was very good as was the food. I paid £10 per day to park the car there which was a bit more than I would have liked . Overall: a fairly decent hotel which is clean and well run.

I didn’t stay, glad I didn’t! ||We attended a function, £30pp buffet - horrendous, hardly enough there for 60 people yet apparently they catered for 90. Not much variety. . ||A bottle of Malbec - not even a very nice tasting one, daylight robbery £29 per bottle!!! Tasted like a basic supermarket wine, zero quality taste, hardly any body to it. Shocking. 1 person serving at the bar, constant queue. ||Very dated hotel. ||Positive, the staff I encountered were nice. ||I’ll never step foot in there again.

Make sure you don’t get room 31, vents from kitchen run the wall between bedroom and bathroom windows which starts at 05.30 making a loud roaring noise. Blackout curtains are good but shame the light from the corridor shines in all around the door. |If you use the restaurant check they have all the items on the main menu as there were three main courses not available. If it rains you get a running tap outside as the guttering for the roof is blocked with moss.
