Tried the George Hotel in Oakham for Sunday roast with the family. It’s now officially our family favourite! It was the best food, the warmest service, by all the staff. Especially the guy serving us - shamefully I didn’t get his name - but a huge credit to the place! Friendly, funny and made our dining experience even more special. All this set in a gorgeously decorated dining room.
Food was 10/10 and very reasonably priced.

Looking forward to eating there again soon.

The picture does the George or its owner no justice whatsoever.||We had the pleasure of staying at The George in Oakham this past weekend, and it truly surpassed our expectations. Lovingly restored to its former glory with no expense spared, the hotel exudes charm and elegance at every turn.||The staff were attentive and welcoming, ensuring every detail was taken care of. The food was nothing short of exceptional, complemented by a comprehensive drinks menu. On-site parking made the stay all the more convenient, and the rooms were a perfect combination of style, comfort, and immaculate cleanliness.||Breakfast was a delight, rounding off an unforgettable stay. We'll most certainly be back to this wonderful retreat in Oakham!

I feel compelled to write this review as I was witness to the guests behaviour that has written the review titled 'New Management should be ashamed'. Whilst I understand that there were some issues with this guests room when they checked in, they were quickly remedied by the well trained and dedicated member of staff on reception. I have seen this lovely 17th century coaching inn transformed by the new owner and his team over the past two years having stayed here several times during this time. Inevitably prices have had to rise as operating costs have gone up and the hotel has had significant investment. However, unbalanced, untrue and unfair reviews like the one I have referred to above that do not accurately reflect reality, can do reputational damage to these small businesses that are trying so very hard in these difficult times. I really don't know why people behave in this way. || I stayed on the same night as this guest and I don't recognise any of the issues which they have highlighted. There were certainly a lot of other guests enjoying the facilities, who all seemed very relaxed and happy. I had another lovely stay and everything worked perfectly. To expect that a small coaching in located in a small market town would have a 24 hour manned reception is ridiculous in my opinion. The front door is locked at 11.30pm (not 10.30pm as the review states) with an option to use the back door and a number to call, if further assistance is required, which is posted on the front door and reception. This seems very sensible and perfectly adequate. The hotel was far from cold, particularly because we've had such mild weather over the past few days. The George Inn is on a journey of transformation and thus far the progress has been rapid from what I have seen and from what I have been informed of by the lovely members of staff, there's much more to come. Please don't let this guests unreasonable bias put you off trying them out. ||I shall certainly be back again - I love it.

We had an absolutely fantastic time. Both the service and food were amazing. A very enjoyable evening, couldn’t fault it. Thank you for making our birthday celebrations so special. Greg did a great job of looking after us supported by Matt.

Another excellent Sunday lunch! Huge portions, well seasoned and delicious! |Only observation - there is never someone to greet you when you arrive in the main entrance. Should one go into the bar area to announce oneself or go straight to the dining room? We tried the dining room this time - nobody to be seen!

We have visited a number of times in Nov. 1st off we gathered for a work colleagues leaving do. The staff were really attentive & kindly provided sharing platters of food to go with drinks. All subsequent visits have been to meet friends for drinks. Think super cosy chairs, fabulous open fire & a steady flow of drinks. Brilliant location for any kind of catch up.

We stayed at The George Inn to celebrate a friend’s birthday & had a wonderful time. Friendly staff, a spacious & clean room, free on site parking & delicious food. The bar area is so cosy with its wingback chairs & roaring fire, it was hard to leave!

In the heart of Oakham, the hotel has lots of character and the staff are both friendly and helpful. We dropped in for lunch and from the moment we entered we were looked after, made to feel welcome and could not have had a more enjoyable meal. The food was excellent, the menu was varied with something for everyone and the atmosphere of the dining room was relaxing. If you are looking for somewhere to stay or eat go to the George Inn.
