It offers convenient access to both the town center and the ferry terminal, facilitating exploration of the Isle of Bute and ease of arrival and departure. Guests consistently appreciate the proximity to key attractions, highlighting its suitability for both short visits and longer stays. However, initial impressions suggest that accessing the hotel itself, specifically regarding parking and initial reception, can present a slight challenge – a point frequently mentioned in guest feedback.

Nice spot with great views. Easy walk into town or the ferry terminal.
Room was a bit dated - especially the bathroom (although that look is coming back into fashion now!). The shower was awful - wouldn't hold temperature + huge disabled access rail right where you stand.
Service is good & staff are friendly.
Access and parking is really pants.
Food is Brake Brothers but ok.
Weird spot for reception but that could be down to building work.
All in all, good value.

We absolutely loved our three night stay in this charming Victorian Hotel. We had a lovely seaview family room which was spacious and peaceful.
The staff were so helpful and kind, particularly the breakfast staff who helped us with the buffet as my husband is visually impaired and I'm on crutches at the moment. The buffet was excellent and hot! Everything topped up regularly so it was always fresh. Dinner at night was equally delicious.
The highlight for us was the incredible views over Rothesay Bay and sipping a drink on the Verandah watching the sunset. We were blessed with fantastic weather. Already considering another visit.

We have had an excellent 3 nights here; staff were exceptional; helpful, attentive and friendly.
And very competent .
Food was delicious, really tasty and good portions . Fresh fruit salad always available at breakfast, plus a wide range of traditional fare.
For the money, it was unbelievable value…. We were a group of 15, and everyone was very satisfied.
I recommend this place to you…. And Bute itself is a treasure, very good exploring on bike.
It wasn’t busy, despite being Easter holiday time, and good weather.

Staying 2 nights easily located from ferry.. And nice views and quiet rooms.. That's about it. Meals menu is seasonal and very restricted in fact everything is served with mushrooms no traditional food dishes and not a lot to choose from.. Menu needs an overall look at for more choice, room lighting is very poor, and is the bath shower switching are very old style to operate .. Needs upgrading.. Hot water isn't very hot as needs running for at least 10 mins.... Tv/Radio options are dated cannot connect to music devices via smart, tvs need upgrading... Overall outwith the hotel the town Rothesay is very run down and like all others around West Coast areas need re investment which won't happen.. Not much to do and not a lot of eating out places.
Glad overall it was a 2 night freebie 😉

Pros and cons...

Pros:
Gorgeous building and garden
Large, comfortable, airy, peaceful bar and restaurant areas
Friendly and professional staff
Large room with comfortable bed
To the east of the hotel are beautiful buildings and peaceful walks
Evening meals are reasonable and delicious
Buffet breakfast is comfortable, plentiful and delicious

Cons:
Parking is difficult - only about 20 spaces for 120 rooms
Shower was very poor - barely worked at all one night
Only one window from three in the room opened
The town of Rothesay just to the west is not pretty...
Evening lighting in the bar/restaurant is very harsh - not a lamp in sight, just the big, bright main lighting - not at all cosy or inviting

Been many times with family for dinner and never had a problem until this week. Quality of some guests there now and food are at an all time low and language terrible. One guest approched my table and became abusive for no reason in full view of everyone in the Lounge. Staff reacted quickly but we decided to leave , they offered to wipe our bill but we insisted on paying which we did . The manager said he would deal with them once they had finished their meal but I would have expected that type of behaviour to be dealt with there and then. Wont be back and suspect the place will close as they cant survive with clientele like that in the place

I had a great last minute stay at The Glenburn Hotel, it’s a gorgeous building and it’s really magnificent on the inside. My room was comfortable but I did find the mattress to be a wee bit too firm for my liking but if you’re someone who sleeps on their back, the mattress would be pretty perfect for you.

The breakfast was brilliant, it was obvious that the square sausage was sourced from an actual butcher rather than being cheap and mass produced. The haggis was the same. The staff were really great too, it seems to be mostly young people but they’re a real testament to young people and were all absolutely fantastic.

The location is stunning and it’s a great base to explore all that Bute has to offer!
