What can I say? Upgraded by Ibis Style to the Grand, due to delayed refurbishment. Thank you for this great experience.
Right by station - plus point.
Friendly, greeting from professional doorman and reception staff. Explained everything available in hotel and made us feel so welcome. Hotel interior was spacious and inviting. Room was luxurious looking proved to be just that. Breakfast was served by efficient, friendly and very professional staff. It was best hotel breakfast I have ever had (and I used to be a sales rep. staying all over the UK). Complementary truffles and shortbread were delicious! Take swimwear for the complementary daily hour in spa!
Staff greeted us warmly every morning and every time we entered or left hotel. I think I might pay that little bit extra next time so I could stay here again!

This Hotel is by far the best Hotel in York, and our go to place when we visit our Daughter who is studying at York University.
From the friendly doormen to greet you in traditional attire, to the reception staff, then the staff around the Hotel, they all just make your stay something extra special.
The Hotel is warm and inviting, the rooms are always lovely and clean, never anything out of place or missing. The beds are so comfortable with plenty of choice of pillows to suit all needs,and it's lovely a quiet of an evening in the rooms that we have stayed in, which makes for such a good night rest.
The most magical time to stay is Christmas, every room in the Hotel even the corridors and stairs are beautifully decorated.
I fully recommend this lovely Hotel after staying several times i continue to leave happier than the last.

I stayed at the Grand for 3 nights over the last weekend and I have to say that my stay was PERFECT. From the time I was welcomed by the doorman to the time the porter and the doorman wished me farewell I could not have been looked after better. Both the bedroom and public areas were exceptionally well laid out and scrupulously clean. The bedroom was well appointed with everything you might expect in a 5* hotel, with a separate toilet/wash basis and a separate brilliant bath and shower room. The breakfast offered the best selection of cold and hot buffets and patisserie selection I have ever seen, along with an extensive a la carte. The hot buffet turned out to be the best hotel buffet I've ever had. The bar service was great with the waiting staff being efficient without being "pushy" to get you further drinks. I dined on each evening in the Rise restaurant. The whole set up fascinated me as the kitchen/pass is in the restaurant so you can watch your meals being prepared. All the food was tasty and ample, indeed the lasagne was the best I ever tasted - when my waiter passed on my compliments on it to the chef he was kind enough to come out of the kitchen to chat to me. As I said a SUPERB stay and I am only sorry that due to my medical conditions I will not be able to revisit in the future - but I certainly urge you to "splash out" and have a stay, you will almost certainly not regret it.

Just had a fabulous Easter weekend break with my daughter. Wow what a wonderful hotel. From the moment you arrive at the door you are treated with so much kindness and respect, every member of staff are friendly, attentive and extremely helpful. Ian who is one of the doormen is an absolute legend and is a real asset to the hotel. Amelia on reception, so friendly and helpful. Rob and Emma from The Rise were so welcoming and informative. Emma thank you for making my daughter’s first afternoon tea one to remember. Milo in The Lounge, lovely young lad who was so helpful and friendly. Freddie who is Concierge such a helpful and respectful young chap, thanks for sorting out all our excursions. The rooms are lovely with everything you need and the bed is super comfy. Perfect location in York, just a short walk to many attractions and The Shambles, York Minster.|Already booked to come back to celebrate a special birthday this October.

Where do I begin…my husband and I were gifted a two night stay at the Grand by our youngest son. From the moment we arrived we were made to feel very welcome by the door staff, reception staff and concierge. The hotel is beautiful, feels very light and airy and the rooms very clean and extremely comfortable. Breakfast at the Rise is fantastic, lots of choices and my husband enjoyed trying most of them! The waiting staff couldn’t be more helpful. It’s makes the stay more enjoyable when you feel like the staff are happy at their job too. So a huge thank you to everyone at the Grand for making our stay so enjoyable, we will definitely come again.

Stayed here Friday and Saturday night over the Easter bank holiday. From the moment we walked in it was an absolutely lovely experience.||The hotel and its rooms are immaculately clean, the in room toiletries and facilities are definitely five star but what puts the hotel on a level above are the amazing staff from the front desk to the maids. We have never experienced better customer service around the world than we did here.||Thank you for a lovely stay, we hope to return soon.

Great Stay at The Grand York – Almost Perfect! ⭐⭐⭐⭐

The Grand York has everything you’d expect from a high-quality hotel. The facilities are excellent, with a decent 20m pool, a relaxing jacuzzi, and a well-maintained sauna. The choice of restaurants is impressive, catering to different tastes, and the rooms are spacious, comfortable, and well-appointed.

Overall, it was a fantastic stay, and I really can’t fault it. The only reason for four stars instead of five is that while everything was great, there wasn’t a standout “wow” factor. That said, I’d definitely stay here again!

Just come back from another fantastic stay at the Grand and its about time i wrote them a review. The place is consistently excellent.
The staff are all super friendly and nothing is too much trouble. We had an executive room which was pure luxury and very spacious. The spa is very good and an excellent way to relax if you are into them - reasonable size pool, jacuzzi and steam & sauna rooms.
We ate in the rise restaurant on the evening and were sat with a great view of the open kitchen. The standard of food getting turned out was amazing and well worth the above average prices - they have a certain level of AA rosette award for the food and my missus who knows a lot about that award reckons the food was a better standard than even that high level of award was indicating.
Breakfast wise, i don't think you would find a better one anywhere in Yorkshire.....the options and quality were top notch - apparently to walk in and just pay for a breakfast is £25 which i would say was a bargain.
The 'Grand' is an appropriate name for the hotel as everything about it is a bit special - the staff really do deserve a lot of praise though as they more than play their part. Looking forward to coming back.
