We recently stayed here for a weekend. The food was excellent, both from the table d'hote and tasting menus. Tom and his brigade of chefs are great at producing imaginative and tasteful dishes.||The rooms are well appointed and relaxing with amazing views. ||We cannot praise all the staff at the Horn of Plenty who were engaging , knowledgeable and always offering to do whatever they could to make our stay so good. New owner Jeremy has a winning team here.||We look forward to our return for our thirds visit. Highly recommended.

What can I say? I stayed at the hotel over the festive period to get away from the usual Christmas chaos and I was not to be disappointed. The food certainly exceeded my expectations the chefs came into the dining room after the meal to the applauds of my fellow guests. I expected great but received fantastic. Everyone was extremely helpful, the wine recommendations were perfect - thank you Sarah - and cheers to Jeremy the owner of the hotel for joining me to toast the new year.|If you are of discerning nature this is the hotel for you. Nothing was too much. |Thank you HoP and I wish you a good 2025.

Absolutely brilliant New Year break. We've stayed here many times and knew that we wouldn't be disappointed. The staff, food and overall experience exceeded even our high expectations. This time we were in room 5 which was great although the lighting is a little dim. Even so the whole stay was fantastic. All of the staff were friendly, happy and attentive without being intrusive. If Jeremy wanted a new venture he could have his team give masterclasses in hospitality. This applies to all of the team but especially Sarah (the smiling go-go dancer) Everest (the waiter and DJ) and Amelia (the waitress whose smile would brighten the dullest day). Also Donna on reception who doubles up as the lounge fire lighter.|A big thank you to all the staff whose names escape us and we look forward to our next visit.

Wonderful Valentine’s tasting menu at The Horn of Plenty. Very friendly and welcoming staff, easily accommodating when we had to leave earlier than planned. Lovely atmosphere. Would definitely come back for another meal or maybe even stay.

I took my elderly parents to the Horn of Plenty for their 75th wedding anniversary. Whilst the starters were satisfactory the actual roast was terrible. When I booked, the sample menu said the beef was ' sirloin of beef'. When we arrived there the menu said 'roast beef' which I thought was a little odd. The meal was served on cold plates and the beef was tough and stringy. The best I can say about it was that it was a small portion! Having been in the butchery trade for over 40 years it was still difficult to identify the cut. My best guess is that it was top rump, a braising cut. It was served with cauliflower cheese which was almost a puree. The potatoes were not crispy and the whole meal was heaped upon the plate, not what one would expect from a fine dining restaurant. When most of the meal was returned nobody asked if there was a problem. To make matters worse, and this was my own fault as I didn't read the bill properly, I left a tip of 20 pounds not realising a service charge had been added. Naturally the waiter did not inform me. I heartily recommend people to avoid this restaurant like a plague if you wand a decent Sunday roast.

The most appalling stay ever. We booked for the very expensive Christmas Stay and it was the worst Hotel stay we have ever experienced. We wanted lunch on Christmas Eve and were told this was unavailable as the entire restaurant had been booked out by the Management with non-residents. These non-residents then took over the lounges etc -so the guests arriving for their "Christmas Stay" were all shoved into the small dining room. | Christmas Day was also utterly ruined - as yet again - the restaurant was crammed to the gunnels with non-residents - who also took over the lounges again. | The Christmas Day lunch was a fiasco. The food was mediocre, the delay betwen courses long.|The breakfasts were not fit for purpose. Overcooked. One resident ordered porridge which was so hard she turned the bowl upside down and it stayed put!|The Room was not a success. No mini bar/fridge. You could not access the dressing table as the wardrobe was right in front of it - and the two occasional chairs were only fit for children to sit in. |We wrote to the owner of the hotel with a complete review of the stay - and asking for some kind of compensation. We said we would be happy to withhold any media reviews until he had a chance to reply. As yet he was not even bothered to reply let alone apologise. |The moral of this story is whilst the staff are good, the location obviously superb, etc - never but never book a stay if there is a Wedding and/or event - as the priority will be on this rather than the paying in-house residents. |Needless to say we will never be staying there again and never recomending it to anyone.

We got married at the Horn of plenty on the 10.2.25 and I have to say it exceeded my expectations.|we came down from the south west back in August to view it for a potential wedding venue, Well it was the first one we seen and we didn’t need to look no further. |Our wedding was always going to be small and intimate and the whole day had to cater for our beloved little dog and I have to say everyone involved in the the whole process went above and beyond.|Starting with Shirna at the very beginning with her informative emails and alongside the chefs allowing us to tweek the menu to suit our party.|All the staff were fab and the food was incredible.|The housekeeping was impeccable and all the restaurant staff were great especially the lovely young lady on the breakfast shift.||If you are thinking of getting married here do it you won’t be disappointed ||The views are incredible ||Thank you to all involved we will definitely be back ||Mr and Mrs Flynn 💕

We decided for the first time ever to go away at Christmas and what would be better than this Devon hotel known over many years for its stunning cuisine. Overall we were disappointed with the outcome and next year will stay at home. The hotel is lovely and commands a wonderful position above the Tamar. The room was good and large. Service was top class - congrats to all the staff - but our 3 days lacked a theme and any real leadership. If the idea was that we were to be left to do our own things then we feel that should have been made clear at the start. We feel that a better effort should have been made to integrate us together.

The food was not generally as stunning as we had hoped; the Christmas lunch was rather poor, as were one or two other dishes. The Boxing Day taster menu with wines was excellent and we would pick out the Venison and Beef fillet dishes as top class. An explainer with the wines would have been helpful. There was an excellent falcony display.

You would expect such a place to be expensive but we did not feel we got full value for our money over the 3 nights of Christmas.
