This was our first visit since the place opened, and based on the reviews, we decided to give it a try. We don’t live locally—we’re about 30 minutes away.

Upon arrival, we were immediately asked if we were just having drinks or planning to eat. If we wanted food, we had only 15 minutes to order because the chef finished at 4 PM—something not mentioned on their website, which states, "The Bar and Restaurant are open every day from 8:15 AM until 10 PM." Not a great start.

We quickly placed our food and drink order. To be fair, the meal was fresh and enjoyable. After eating, we ordered another drink, and by this point, it was around 4:30 PM. No one had mentioned closing times.

Then, at about 4:45 PM, we were asked to pay as they were cashing up the till. I went up and settled the bill—still no mention of closing time. But to our surprise, 15 minutes later, a staff member came over and told us to finish our drinks because they were closing and wouldn’t reopen until 7 PM—just for drinks!

If this is their daily routine, their website and social media should be updated to reflect it. Overall, not a great experience, and one we won’t be repeating. Why do businesses operate this way? Surely, the goal is to attract customers, not drive them away. G

Recently stayed at Jack & Jill for our wedding in Danby. We booked all the rooms out for us & wedding guests. The staff were incredibly helpful and made everyone feel welcome. All the guests were very complimentary of the hotel and kept saying how happy they were with their room and how nice the place was. Breakfast was great, again everyone really pleased. The hotel also accommodated us with a Continental breakfast to take away on the morning of the wedding as we (Bride&groom) was unable to dine there on that morning.
Mini golf & park was also a great hit with the kids. Would definitely recommend this hotel.

We have just got back from 3 nights at Jack and Jill and I honestly cannot fault a single thing. We had a party of 20 people as we were getting married nearby, so had all the rooms booked. The staff could not have been more lovely and accommodating. I have to make a special mention to Keith. He was on shift throughout our stay and was so attentive and accommodating. I think we asked him for about a million things during our stay and he was able to support with absolutely everything, especially on the morning of the wedding which was pretty hectic. He is an absolute credit to this place and we cannot thank him enough. All the other staff we encountered were amazing also!

The rooms are fantastic, the food was incredible (huge portion sizes), and the facilities on site (playground and 18 hole mini golf) kept our child guests occupied all weekend. I honestly can't praise this place enough and we will be back for dinner the next time we are in the area. It was a fantastic place to stay and enjoy our wedding weekend. Thank you so so much!

Haven't stayed at the hotel, so this is solely for passing stops.

Staff service was great, and pub looked lovely and the playground was brilliant, and thats where it ends.

My family and I stopped at the hotel/pub for a break with the children as it looked very appealing and a nice stop to have a coffee—oh, how i was wrong; i've never in my life tasted such a disgusting flat white! I had a mouthful, and i couldn't even stomach it. It was like either the milk was off, or the coffee was re-used/wrotten. I tried another sip and had to leave it, i don't know what they use for coffee, but i'd highley re-consider ordering one if you like a coffe as much as i do!

Beautiful hotel with a delightful mix of ancient and modern. Staff hugely polite, friendly, and courteous. Room was lovely but no wardrobes or drawers, just a designated area on the wall with hooks and hangers. Self-closing doors slamming shut at all hours spoilt it for me. If you sleep like the dead you'll be ok otherwise be warned.

Stopped for a family meal here whilst camping nearby. Good portion sizes (excellent chips) and staff were very attentive and welcoming, the food was good but not amazing. Only two beers/ales on draft and surprised to find out they stop serving food so early, 6pm on some days. Playground outside was excellent for kids to runaround with pretty decent size beer garden for a drink and a game of table tennis if you fancy it.

Hidden gem!! Great food, including full Sunday dinner and kids menu. Great service. Top quality decor. Fantastic kids play area, and brilliant 18 hole crazy golf!! Lovely walk around the reservoir. Highly recommended!!
