Possibly the worst nights sleep I've had. Extremely noisy area and unfortunately I could hear every time the room next door used the tap/toilet (excessively loud). Rooms could do with updating, the carpets made the room look and smell unclean. The bed was comfy and clean linens which was a relief.|The pub area was nice and the staff were really polite and friendly.

This is a very old coaching house, so it has odd shaped low ceiling, uneven floors and narrow twisty stairs. Well the room we stayed in was. It is 5 minutes from the M25 and Harry Potter studios, so location is good.|The bed was uncomfortable, but most are never like yours at home. There was only a chest of drawers for clothes, no wardrobe.|TV on the wall and a kettle on the floor, the radiator didn't work, hot at the bottom and cold at the top, plus it was behind the headboard, so basically useless. There was a mirror on what I think was a connecting door to the next room this was broken at the bottom.|The stairs up to the bathroom were twisty narrow and uneven so definitely a slip hazard.|Would I stay here again, no , there must be somewhere better for the same price.

This hotel has great potential, if proper investment into modernisation is prioritised. We had two rooms for our family for two nights. The hotel is very tired unfortunately and all carpets need a thorough deep clean (we kept shoes on as felt they were too dirty) and didn’t risk using the kettle. |We arrived on a very busy Friday night (a good sign as it’s clearly popular in the bar and restaurant) but felt in the way|upon arrival although not for long. |We were taken to our rooms by a friendly member of staff. The bedding was clean and fresh but the carpet wasn’t great and everything was old fashioned. Towels were clean but old and too small and the bathroom was really tired with damaged tiles, a rusty towel rail and I’m not convinced the floor had been washed. |Sadly we had a bad first night due to pillows which were so firm, it was like sleeping on a large brick. We all commented on this and felt tired the next day.|The second night wasn’t as bad - maybe we were used to hard pillows by that point.|On the plus side, breakfast was great (which you pay for separately. Disappointed we couldn’t swap baked beans for mushrooms which seemed petty when you consider what we were spending).|On the second morning we had an unfriendly waitress who literally plonked the menus down and walked off! |So…we wouldn’t stay there again but it is a great location for the Harry Potter studios/nearby wedding venue. But if there was a next time, we’d do more research.

Tbh we didn't stay in the hotel however this review is about the restaurant .. So OMG this was amazing .Came here as recommended and certainly lived up to it. Lovely friendly welcome and the food portions more than adequate and very hot....not luke warm as some places.... Great atmosphere and food was excellent , Not over priced either . So that was a bonus... Staff were attentive and helpful . Definitely worth a visit and the journey .. The restaurant nothing to fault . So thankyou for such a lovely evening .

A very nice hotel in a 16th century building and the rooms still have that quirky feel to them. Perfect for a stay for Harry Potter but have your travel options ready as they are very limited, especially on a weekend with no buses running. Local taxi was reasonable. The pub garden is very nice to relax in the sun.

What a pity this lovely 1600’s building has been let go to rack and ruin . ||Basic maintenance has gone undone , the carpets are threadbare and filthy , light fittings have bulbs missing , the bath spills water over the rotting frame around the toilet. The Tv has no remote , this place is a complete dump . ||As for the pillows , my god they are cheap , they feel like cotton sacks stuffed with polystyrene, huge and hard . Our heads were at least 1ft off the bed . |Read the unbiased negative reviews and the pillows are a reoccurring theme . ||It’s no wonder they relieve of money in advance , no one on seeing upstairs would stay the night . ||Bar area is more like a working men’s cafe for unemployed van drivers . Loud and repulsive ||Avoid . Stay in Watford

We booked to stay here as it was close to the Harry Potter studio tour. The rooms were clean and I slept reasonably well. No issues with noise for us. We had food in the restaurant and it was absolutely delicious - I wish I had room for dessert. The pub is really quirky with uneven floors and low ceilings, which I loved as it was cosy. The room had a king sized bed, which was very squishy. There was also a single bed but we didn’t need it. A massive TV in the room meant we could chill and watch a film with some beers as there isn’t much to do in the area. There is the odd thing which could be better but I’d definitely stay there again.
