While on a day tour of Scotland and England’s borders, a stop in Kelso at The Knowles was a welcome break. After sitting at a table, a sweet young gal took our orders and delivered the Scone and a grand blueberry muffin, along with coffee. The pastry was fresh and delicious. The coffee was also excellent. They’re open Monday -Saturday 9:30 to 3 and Sunday 12 to 2, serving breakfast and lunch. Wish we had more time to wander the village.

Nice enough cafe but we ordered a bacon roll each and the bacon was barely cooked. Three rashers of cheap bacon, full of almost raw fat - gross. We asked brown sauce which arrived as some light coloured fruit dip (yuck). I mean seriously - how hard can it be to grill or fry some bacon, render the fat and bring some brown sauce. It didn't seem like rocket science. Two coffees, two bacon rolls for £16. Pretty steep. Wouldn't return.

We came here as we’re on holiday & wanted to go to a little coffee shop.
I ordered the gluten free dark chocolate and ginger flapjack & a vegan chai latte, my husband ordered a Malteser traybake and a flat white.
We can confirm it’s the best dessert we’ve both had in a while!! And the drinks was absolutely delicious!
Hopefully we will come back before our trip is over

Popular coffee shop with food. It was ok, dry scones when we went. Busy. Has normal tables plus couches and coffee tables so choose your relax. The lentil soup was very good

Lovely cafe with great decor. Food is amazing as are the staff. I had the charcuterie board and it was amazing and kept me filled up all day. Dogs welcome. Would definitely recommend.

The food was cold and appalling. Pale cold translucent bacon. Runny but congealed egg even though Asked for everything well cooked !! Cold tinned tomatoes. Toast arrived after the finishing meal. Drink just about warm. Lots of nice beans but we're cold. Drafty and cold.

Great place, great service and great choice of food from Breakfast options, lunch or just a cake and drink.

Highlight was their smoothie and milkshake.

Well worth a visit.

Dog friendly as well.

We've had a nice lunch here a few months ago. Breakfast this time was almost inedible. Poached eggs were overcooked, I don't believe the smashed avocado was actually avocado (I suspect out of a tub), and toast was warm bread. My wife's mushrooms looked weeks old. The coffee & tea were nice, plus the service. But nobody asked how our food was until I went to pay - at that point, there's 6+ people queuing at the till around me, so saying the food was terrible would have been very impolite. Instead, I've fed back via friends of friends to the owners.

But please up your game Knowes. Breakfast in Kelso on a Monday is a gap in the market. Do much better, and you'd have a great opportunity to fill that gap.
