Lovely Inn, very friendly and welcoming staff, unfortunately the bedroom was a bit "tired" but we were told they were closing in January 2025 for a refurbishment of all 9 rooms available. The bathroom was excellent, a good size and warm. The main bar (by the fire) was very cosy and the food in the restaurant (including breakfast) was first class.Would definitely go back.

Six of us had lunch for the second time (two years apart) at the Lion Inn today. It was absolutely spectacular. The menu has a fantastic and interesting choice of small plates in addition to a few main courses. All of the food was very obviously completely made from scratch, tasted really fresh and the presentation was absolutely beautiful, colourful and vibrant.
It was an absolute joy to eat and very reasonably priced. So a big shout out to the chef, Elsom, who is clearly very talented.
The service was also top notch. Thanks for a lovely lunch, I wish we had time to come back again on this trip but looking forward to next year already ?

Lovely pub with garden and rooms, but we are relatively local and were just here for lunch. Fantastic fish tacos, mum had fish and chips, and sis had a really tasty burger. All good portions, and service was attentive but not overbearing. Would highly recommend. Parking at the side road in the short stay, a short walk to the pub. Perfect day!

Have stayed in several pubs during a recent walking tour of the Cotswolds. In most the hospitality has been great and the rooms very nice. This one was the outlier. It was clear that the room was overdue for maintenance. The carpet was very stained throughout the room, which included several liquid stains (see photos). I went downstairs and spoke to the member of staff who handed us our room key and expressed disappointment at the cleanliness of the room. He expressed surprise and suggested that I speak with the manager when they came on duty. Despite expressing concerns about the cleanliness of the room we had no follow up. I don’t believe that guests should have to advise that rooms need carpet cleaning. In addition, the toilet roll holder fell off the wall. Apart from maintenance issues we had a sense that guests were a burden. The contrast between the reception we received at this business and the wonderful hospitality experienced at other Cotswold establishments was stark. People contemplating this business as an accommodation option also need to be aware that pets are welcome in every room.

Excellent dinner, great and very friendly service, wonderful atmosphere.

All the staff were great, the burgers were the best I have eaten for a long time and the portion sizes were just right, not so huge that you felt blown out afterwards, but great value for money. We are definitely going back.

Butcombe hotels deliver high quality meals consistently. The pub was warm and inviting with its original fireplace burning all day. Room was clean and comfortable. Great outdoor courtyard too. Nice place. Host was a bit of a Basil though.

Great tasting Sunday lunch. Good value, promt and served piping hot. Packed pub inside and out. Karyen looked after us from her friendly greeting as we walked through the door to delivering the bill at the end. Faultless service. Happy, smiley and very, very busy staff ! It was a spectacle to behold as the tables were cleared promptly and ready to reseat the next guests. Professional and efficient team.

We had a superb meal at the Lion, with great service and delicious food. It is a wonderful old pub. I had Stone Bass, which was beautifully cooked in a tomato and bean sauce. My fellow diners had fish and chips and a burger which they declared delicious. The service was great, friendly and efficient. Highly recommended.
