Last month we had a very special family reunion at this beautiful historical hotel and it was just fabulous. Room, refreshments , ambience, staff and service all brilliant. We were able to have a family room for an overnight stay and staff went out of their way to provide a cot and a Zbed so we could be together. It was spacious , comfortable and very clean all at a great price too. Breakfast delicious with a varied menu choice. Sending a whopping big thank to all staff and looking forward to staying again.

I came here on a business night away. I couldn’t book into the travelodge I normally use. |This is so much nicer and a similar price. |The staff are very welcoming and extremely eager to assist. |The environment is calming and easy going. |The restaurant food is excellent. |I will be coming back here - probably with my good lady and dogs. The place is dog friendly (actually dog welcoming). |What a wonderful find.

We spent 2 nights at The Manor House in August (16th-18th) with 3 other couples as we were visiting the Auckland Project & in particular the Kynren, which was spectacular. We couldn’t have been happier with our choice of hotel. The rooms were exceptional! Definitely well beyond 3* standard. The food was truly first class and the service outstanding. We were warned in advance that renovations to the main staircase & hall were taking place but this in no way hampered our comfort & enjoyment. We will certainly be returning. Well done to all the staff!

Had a thoroughly lovely one night stay at this hotel. Rooms have been tastefully refurbed, as have many parts of the hotel itself, inc. the spa. Hotel Staff were very welcoming (not so much the spa reception which was not a warm welcome at all) and incredibly knowledgeable on the history of the Hotel. There was a sense of staff being very proud to work there & pleased that the current owners were investing so heavily in updating the property. We enjoyed a lovely meal in the evening and breakfast the next morning. The staff were also very dog friendly which is a must for us when travelling with our little dog. We have to visit the North East annually and have already decided this is our "go too" hotel of choice and look forward to returning. Highly recommended for exploring this part of the world...

Absolutely beautiful location and place to stay. Spa staff were fantastic and attentive. The spa was hands down the nicest we've been too and the treatments were fantastic. Value for money! Very relaxing experience and we will definitely be back.

Only reason we have given 4 stars for service was the hotel not the spa. On three occasions we waited a long time for someone to be available at the reception desk, it was often unmanned. We didn't receive the best service in the bar either and the cocktails were over priced and not very nice to drink.

Don't want to leave on a negative though. The spa staff make this place a great place !

Mine was a Spa day so can't comment on rooms.
I had the most enjoyable spa experience. Everything was delightful.
The spa area itself has been beautifully upgraded. The pool is small but perfect. A detail is the large screen which runs video of seascapes etc. Adds to the whole experience.
My niece and I chose to have the 2 course lunch and it was fabulous. I had the salmon followed by chocolate mousse and can highly reccomend.
The 80 minute facial treatment was an absolute joy.
Love the fact you are asked beforehand if you would like to chat during the massage so no embarrassment in opting for silence.
Ellie is an excellent therapist ensuring throughout the experience that I was comfortable.
The whole treatment is superlative and the products suited my skin.
All in all a great experience. I used to go to Headlam Hall in the past. In my opinion this was much more enjoyable.

The food and service was great. The treatments were lovely and products too. The robe given was too small i think it would be a good idea when u book for an option to ask for a larger size if you are a bigger lady or gent it was a little embarrassing having to wear a top underneath. It was also really slippy walking to the treatment rooms passed the pool some advice would be helpful to wear something on your feet.

Nothing but praise for this hotel. The building itself is ancient, quirky and romantic, with many nooks and passages, filled with antique furniture and even a suit of armour. As a result the ambience is great, and this is enhanced by the excellent staff, including Yasmin on Reception. The bedroom was large and commodious enough for us two and our small son and the bathroom was great. We didn't eat dinner at the hotel but had an excellent (full English) breakfast. Only slight niggle - the breakfast menu needs to be clearer about choices and they should offer Continental OR cooked like most hotels. Will definitely return.
