There is actually nothing nice to be said about this post !! We booked afternoon spa and afternoon tea .. on arrival the young girl at reception she tryed but there was no work ethic in her . Changing rooms were filthy black mould all over ! The spa it self had a lingering smell dirty towels all over and empty glassses all over the two young lady’s that’s were working were sat in reception and walked past all the mess and never attempted to clean it up ! Outside hot tubs need a good clean you could see the tide lines again lots of empty glasses outside ! The mud ritual was actually the only|Good part . But again no effort in cleaning it and scraping the water of the floor etc before the next people use it , would take 5 mins just to clean it up ! Steak room not working which is disappointing and no correspondence before hand to say it wasn’t (disappointed) .changing rooms when we went to get changed were just full of every ones wet towels no fresh bath mats in place . Went out to sit in he lounge area which again was covered in empty glasses and the two young girls just chatting away at the desk no effort to make the place tidy and enjoyable. Then we went for our afternoon tea we were greates by a lovely lady which took our drinks order and then out came the afternoon tea .. sandwich’s rock hard been sat out for to long the bread had gone like toast . Sausage roll very nice the cakes not bad and scone good but overall very very disappointed

Lovely staff at check in and we were directed to a cottage style room (38?) in an outside annex. It was some time later that we found that the water pipes made a noise like a banshee or perhaps bagpipes when the toilet was flushed. It was bad enough for us but the people in the room next door must have found it really annoying. The bathroom shower was black with mould and just hadn’t been cleaned and the bedroom carpet was sticky and stained/marked possibly by dogs. We had drinks in the bar followed by dinner in the restaurant, but the hotel is very untrusting of its guests and wanted payment after every order which was very annoying. It could have been added onto the room bill but instead we made 6 separate payments. I suppose this reflects the type of people who stay here. The staff were lovely and very helpful except for reception who were disinterested when we commented on the room though another staff member said they had been trying occasionally to sort the noisy pipes for some time but had failed to find the problem. Dinner in the restaurant was fine and we ordered from both the restaurant and bar menu’s without problem. Breakfast was great with a good fresh fruit salad and excellent cooked plates. Location OK for our purposes but probably wouldn’t stay there again.

Terrible. A lovely building on the outside and the website makes it look nice. Expected a 4 star spa hotel … anything but 4 star. Superior room was awful. Dirty and in need of some TLC and a deep clean. Shabby best describes it. I suppose it depends what expectations you have. It’s better than a Travelodge but not somewhere for a special occasion. It could be so much better.

We have recently had our wedding here and what a magical day it was! It was everything that we had ever dreamed of right down to the finest detail.||The service was fantastic from all staff, they made sure everything ran very smoothly and on time. The room looked incredible, the food was lovely and they really couldn’t have done anything more for us from start to finish.||We booked our wedding 2 years prior to the date and from then on Clare was always on hand for any questions and ideas. We also booked burns cottage for the weekend for both sides of the family to stay in. It was so spacious, clean and really handy for everyone to have their own space.||Huge shout out to Clare, Kellie and Andy for making our day so perfect we could never thank you enough! ?||Mr & Mrs Race

Dinner was atrocious. So called vegan /vegetarian curry was basically a tin of tomato soup with some veggies thrown in and a a sprinkling of curry powder with easy cook rice. (And don’t try and tell me otherwise). They have the audacity to say they have restaurant.
Never again!!!
The room was a shambling mess. They probably call it eclectic. But, mildew and stains in the bathroom is not eclectic in my book.
The one saving grace was the lady at breakfast was wonderful, attentive and very welcoming. She needs to move to a proper hotel.
This is not a first time opinion. We did stay there before and did not like it. Not sure why we went back but, needs must.

My wife and I were going to book a four night stay in your beautiful hotel. ( so said your website). I then thought about reading the reviews. So glad I did. What a dump!!!!!!!!!!||So glad to read reviews, not our idea of a good class hotel.||Thank you for the reviews, saved a horrible experience.

Overnight stay to split the journey north. Looks great on arrival. Inside not so good.
No one on reception even though they ask for your arrival time? We had to look for someone to check us in .
Bedroom last room left to book , twin room at front 21.
Bathroom dated and damaged sink with yellow mark around damage which could have been cleaned. Very small bath, tatty light pull, no shower gel.
Beds looked ok and mattress fairly comfortable, very thin duvet and pillows.
Booked table in Dickens bar and bistro , no one on bar and 3 couples waiting for service only to be told he's on his break by the same pleasant lady that we had to fetch to check us in. She then came to serve us.
Food not good for my meal of very expensive soggy battered fish and chips with about a teaspoonful of cold mushy peas the whole thing was tasteless left most of it. For £17.95 and when asked if the food was ok, I said no it was not as described on menu and told her I would not have paid for it but as you pay up front there's no option for refusing to pay.
Well what can you do but put it down to experience and not return.
Positive points , when you could find the staff they were pleasant and parking ok .
For a cost of £124 no breakfast that was extra and food and drinks nearly £50.
Needs more staff, more maintenance. It was sold as 4 star and did not meet those standards in any way.

This hotel has the best staff I have ever encountered and I've been in many hotels, I don't care that the rooms were not the best, they were clean and with a fantastic breakfast thrown in. ALL of the staff were great Dickens bar Breakfast staff and reception. Thank you staff.
