BE VERY CAREFUL WHEN BOOKING THIS “HOTEL”!!

I submitted a booking request through the website but received zero confirmation or response. In the days before my booking date, I tried to call multiple times to confirm but the phone would ring out and enquiry messages were ignored.

I assumed I didn’t have a room, then a week later I receive a £100.08 charge for a £55 single room. Who knows how that was calculated as there is no evidence of a booking policy on the website… Again, all my calls or efforts to contact after the charge were ignored.

I have never stayed in a worse place in my life! It is hard to find anything that l could compliment! They keep dangerous dogs who attacked our two small terriers on 2 occasions over a 1 night stay! The room was horrid, the shower didn’t work, there was neither air conditioning nor a fan to help with the overpowering heat of the day! The room faced out directly onto a main road with traffic passing constantly. Therefore, with no other option we had to keep the window open for ventilation and had no sleep whatsoever. The room was very small with not even space for a chair to sit on. The toilet would not flush! Mr MacNamara the owner was an extremely obtuse character who appeared to be indifferent to the fact that his dogs were out of control. He also tried to charge us £ 60 for allowing our dogs to stay, which he quickly reduced to £40 when my wife protested! Having had the utter temerity to complain about this sham of a place, our room key suddenly disappeared! How could that happen when we had at no point taken it with us Of course he then charged us an extra £70 for a replacement.|Breakfast was a joke! I have had better at transport cafés.|He certainly knows how to charge for abysmal service. Take my advice and look through the litany of other reviews before you book. It may well save you big problems.

The landlord and landlady were incredibly welcoming, warm and friendly — they even upgraded our room for one of the nights we were there because it was vacant, which was a really nice surprise. Breakfasts were made to order and there were plenty of options available — my girlfriend has complicated dietary restrictions, which were entirely catered for. The rooms were nice, with comfortable beds and en suite shower/toilet facilities. The location was very convenient, right by Chilham Station and a short walk from the charming village — the only minor issue was the busy road we had to cross.
The owners even took a really late booking from a Dutch couple who were stuck without a place to stay because of massive delays with ferries etc, who called in the middle of the night (we didn't hear any of this, we met them over breakfast in the morning) — this is a good example of the kind of people who run The Old Alma: they are incredibly accommodating and will go out of their way to make sure your stay is a good one.

A bit unsure by some previous reviews but was very pleasantly surprised. Beautifully decorated room with a comfy bed. Very accommodating host and was even kind enough to give us a lift to the wedding venue nearby. A small gesture like that goes a really long way. Helpful and very polite, unfortunately to many drinks to enjoy the breakfast the following morning but would return if we had another wedding in the area. Thanks to Sarah for her wonderful hospitality.

We found our stay of one night to be adequate. The room was clean but basic. The breakfast was very nice but only offered cooked, no cereal yogurt or juice . The owners were pleasant and engaging but weren’t around to let us in, we had to wait in the car park for quite a while for a neighbour to come down.

I stayed here last weekend for a wedding. The rooms were immaculately clean and very spacious. Large clean bathroom also.
The staff were lovely and friendly. I made a mix up with timings, yet they were more than happy to stay up waiting for me.
I stayed with my 6 month old baby, and the gentleman who owns the place was so kind with him and made sure to help us back to the car.
Would definitely stay again! Thank you!

The owners are alcoholic lunatics. The female wanted my fiance! The man accused us of stealing!! What we were never sure !! No hit water. Dogs that we were told "will rip our cat apart". Breakfast was delivered in, god forbid should the female get her hands dirty!! Awful at £100 a night. Demanded a refund as he had stolen some things from us ie firestick 😡🤬

Sarah and Tony were incredibly welcoming and couldn’t do enough for us. They made us feel at home. The room was comfy and immaculate and we all had a great sleep. Breakfast was also superb and hearty portions. Highly recommend if you’re looking for a place in the area.
