What a gem of a place! A beautifully renovated, decorated and well presented house and room, full of antiques and an eclectic range of carefully chosen pictures and books. Ruth is a truly lovely host who is both welcoming and interesting. Our twin room was very spacious, with a similarly large bathroom. There is a big walk in shower as well as a bath. No tv in the bedroom but instead you have a tv room next door - far more comfortable and homely than watching from your bed! A well prepared breakfast using locally sourced ingredients is served in the dining room, on crisp white tablecloths. There is also a sheltered, pretty and comfortable courtyard for guests to use. All in all the attention to detail here is amazing and Ruth is the perfect host who has thought of everything. Everything is lovely, stylish and comfortable.|My dairy and gluten intolerance was no problem and vegetarians are very well catered for. Montgomery is charming and well worth a visit. And the Old Stores is one of the best places we have ever stayed in. Visit. You won’t be disappointed here.

Our second visit to The Old Stores. Ruth has a delightful B and B, which she has lovingly created in a former Georgian shop. The bedrooms with large ensuite bathrooms are delightful with everything you would expect for a high quality B and B. A beautiful and cosy guest lounge is such a bonus. Breakfast is very good with a great choice of freshly cooked food to accommodate all tastes. Ruth is a mind of information about the local area, and her recommendations of places to visit and places to eat are very helpful. Montgomery is a beautiful Georgian town surrounded by lovely countryside, exceptional places to eat, and great places to visit. We highly recommend this characterful, high-quality B and B.

We stayed at The Old Stores B&B on a walking holiday.
As the front door opened to greet us, we knew we were in for a treat.
We were invited to leave our walking boots, poles etc in the hall before being shown upstairs.
The ample rooms are furnished with tasteful antiques, big, comfy, beds gorgeous linen and traditional Welsh blankets.
In a corner, in a small jar (the best I have ever tasted) Welsh cakes winked, temptingly at me. A kettle and the necessary for making hot drinks, fresh milk and even a fridge are inside a walk-in cupboard.
The bathrooms are modern and luxurious with all the necessary accessories.
There is a large and comfortable drawing.room with a distinct middle-eastern feel to it.
The menu offers a good choice of breakfasts and the usual teas, coffees and toast etc. and is served in the dining room looking out on historic Montgomery.
Our host was welcoming, friendly and helpful and happily opens her beautiful home to her guests.
This is the perfect place to stay, if you love tradition and comfort.

Booked this beautiful B and B as we were in the area visiting Powis Castle which is only a short drive away. We were in for a real treat, Ruth the owner has the most stunning property with impeccable taste and an eye for detail which is evident throughout. Ruth’s warm welcome makes you feel relaxed and at home as soon as you step inside the door. Homemade Welsh cakes and ample supply of tea, coffee etc were welcome after a long day. The room was furnished beautifully with top quality bedding, towels, robes and toiletries, in fact everything you need for your stay has been thought of. A beautiful sitting room is also available should you wish to watch tv as there isn’t one in the room which was no problem to us. Our room was peaceful and quiet with no noise issues whatsoever. The clock tower situated next door does not chime through the night, Breakfast was a real treat, we had the Welsh breakfast which was cooked to perfection. Thank you Ruth for letting us stay and we look forward to booking with you again in the near future. If I could give you 20 out of 5 stars I would have!

I stayed in the twin room with my Son as a stop over on our way to Aberystwyth University open day.|The room/whole house is spotlessly clean, beautifully designed and very comfortable. |I normally have trouble sleeping in ‘strange’ beds but the mattress, duvet and pillows were soft and very comfortable and I had no problem getting to sleep despite sharing a room with my son who snores sound like blocked drains.|In the morning we opted for the Full Welsh breakfast which was perfectly cooked and was mostly sourced from the local area. The orange juice tasted freshly squeezed and there was fresh coffee. It was delicious.|The absolute best thing about the old stores BnB is the host Ruth, she is lovely and very hospitable and cooks a great breakfast. |

We had had a bit of a rough during our roundtrip in the Shropshire area and the timing for staying there, couldn't have been better. Both of us felt like our batteries we're completely recharged after staying there for only one night. We received a warm welcome, the room was absolutely perfect and clean, with a massive bathroom. I really enjoyed the touch with the books all over, which you could buy if you wanted. The breakfast phenomonal, really can't say anything bad about is.

Such a lovely stay here! The rooms were immaculate with a stunning bath room, super clean. A warm welcome from the lovely Ruth who cooked an amazing breakfast! Definitely recommend if you’re visiting the area. We were at a wedding at Garthmyl Hal and it was a great location.

Wow ! What a beautiful house, sat in a perfect location in a pretty village, this elegant property oozes charm. Our bedroom was gorgeous, fabulous bathroom with huge shower, masses of hot water and a deep slipper bath. Wonderful nights sleep finished off with breakfast in the tastefully decorated dining room. Breakfast was cooked beautifully. I can honestly say this is the best B & B we have stayed in, it's a credit to the owner Ruth who made our stay in her home perfect.
