The room was lovely, however I had the boiler in my room and the pipes started to leaking into the bar below. It was an all out flood. I was asked to leave my room totally understandable. However it was at full capacity, so was offered a sofa in the pool room happy days somewhere to sleep. The team were outstanding the whole time making sure I was OK. After the water had stopped I returned to my original room to a good night sleeps with the sounds of the waterfall playing in the background. To compensate me my stay was free, they covered my bar bill and breakfast. Food was banging best homemade chips I have had in a very long time. Guinness was top notch. Breakfast was massive and super tasty.||To Colin (owner) you have a team made of gold look after them and your place will be in safe hand!||100% would stay again!

We stayed here for one night whilst walking the Peddars Way. |What a lovely welcoming pub, it was quite busy when we arrived and had a nice atmosphere. We had a couple of drinks and were shown to our room. |A great clean and comfortable room.|The guys have recently taken over the pub and we wish them well! They have a great pub, friendly staff and comfortable rooms. We would definitely stay here again!

The staff member that greeted us was very warm and welcoming,she was polite, explained meal options and was very catering in regard to timings and availability.. she showed us to our room which was lovely, nice and clean apart from the blind was broken. We went down for a drink and the lady who served us was very lovely and told us of some local places to visit and accommodated our dog and when we said he was nervous about other dogs she was nice enough to give us the back room and said if any other dogs came in she would keep them in the front.. she explained we could order food and drinks to our room if that was better.. all round a brilliant experience from all staff we encountered.

After a morning exploring the beautiful local area, the children were hungry so we decided to pop in the pub for a quick bite to eat. The pub was empty as it was a nice day and people had chosen to sit outside. We ordered drinks at the bar, the children picked off the children's menu and we chose a chicken baguette off the special board. We then found a table in the lovely pub garden. After we had been sitting there for 20 minutes we began to wonder where our food was. The table next to us overheard and said they had been waiting an hour for their food. After 45 minutes of waiting, we went inside to ask how much longer it would be. They said it would be 5 minutes but this turned into 15. When the food finally arrived, the children's pasta was presented on small, plastic toddler plates ( our 10 year old didn't look impressed) and the chicken baguettes were actually shop-bought chicken nuggets. The chips were drenched in oil and the salad was inedible, such a shame after waiting so long.

Castle Acre, Swaffam, Norfolk is a lovely area to visit. We were unfortunate enough to stay at The Ostrich Inn. Situated on the Village Green. It was a lovely location, but the room we occupied was nothing like the picture on their website. We were shown to the door and immediately left... No wonder. My first reaction was of shock! The blind at the window was down, and one corner lodged up for light. There were a few coat hooks on the wall for our clothes. No wardrobe, or dressing table, or even a chair in the room. In the corner was a small table, with kettle, tea bags, cups, etc.
On a hook was a frame, which looked as if it was or had been a mirror but empty.
I was in the village for business. So, for convenience, I had an evening meal at The Ostritch. Sausages, Mash, Peas, and Onion gravy. The sausages were fine. The mash was watery with lumps and the peas cooked in the microwave. As I ate very little, I ordered a dessert of Apple Crumble and Custard. It was not cooked. The topping was like dry flour on the roof of my mouth. The apple was just slightly warm. Custard was acceptable.
Rather than stay for breakfast, we had a very nice breakfast next door, at a charming little tea room.
I will most probably need to visit Castle Acre again, but I will not be visiting The Ostritch.

Taking the trouble to write this review as we had completed 6 mile circular walk at Castle Acre and Googled eateries nearby. |The Ostrich didn't have a good rating, however it was close and offered food as well as drinks.|Very wise decision to venture in.|Served promptly with pleasant disposition by bar tender, taking drinks order while we surveyed the menu and specials board.|BLT sandwich, coleslaw (homemade? ) and chips, along with Chilli con carne (homemade?) and tortillas.|Questioning the home made elements as they appeared and tasted homemade, coleslaw chunky and flavoursome, chillies full of flavour with addition of vegetables adding to wholesome flavour.|Prices are what one would expect within a pub.|Certainly visit again when next in the area.

We popped in for a light lunch after a cold family walk today and were met with a roaring fire and a warm welcome from staff.

The guys behind the bar and serving us during lunch were polite, friendly and helpful making a busy lunchtime enjoyable despite surroundings being very busy.

We sat on the upper level and the table layout was a little restrictive and busy, which also highlighted the tired paint / decoration on the walls. This was offset by the lovely roaring fire and attractive artwork however, so wasn’t the end of the world.

Lunch was delicious and reasonably priced with a lovely house red to accompany, the only other thing that was a bit much was the music which felt on the wrong side of being too loud for a busy pub.

Overall, we really enjoyed and will be back.

This is a historic pub in a picturesque, peaceful village. They had a couple of local ales on, service was friendly and reasonably effecient. There were other groups and families eating and drinking. However, the food was not good. The menus on the table didn't seem to be right. We had two ostrich burgers, which came on blackened brioche buns with burnt bacon, the cheese was also fried and crispy. Chips were ok. The meal was served on a slate with the chips in a small bucket which was impractical. The kids cheese and tomato pasta was a huge portion of pasta with what seemed like tinned tomatoes and cheese and a couple of pieces of brocoli. Overpriced for what it was.
