Good food, excellent service and lovely ambience. Friendly greeting on arrival and we were quickly taken through to the bar area to wait for our friends where an open fire warmed the room. Lovely traditional feel and efficient members of staff. Once everyone arrived we were given a choice of menus. Traditional a la carte or lighter bite menu (standard size starter and pudding and half size main). The lighter bite menu was chosen by most of our group. Once we were taken to our table in a lovely light room an excellent meal was had by all. The staff were very good, there if needed but not hovering. Never felt rushed to leave the table even though we chatted long after we had finished the meal. There is a nice seating area for coffee if you don’t want to stay at the table. Would definitely recommend and will be visiting again

One of the best last minute decisions I’ve ever made. Stopped to break up a long drive and blown away by the tasting menu - its Michelin stars quality. The service is personable and high quality, and the rooms fantastic! Have the wine pairing, exquisitely surprising choices!

This was a disappointing experience. Having read the glowing reviews we were anticipating a memorable evening. Unfortunately it started badly, pre dinner drinks took an age to arrive. We felt neglected sitting in the lounge with no sign of staff after the initial greeting. The drinks did arrive eventually and we were subsequently taken through to the dining room. It is an oblong room, not particularly large, with a row of tables along each side, it seemed quite dull. There were several couples, but there was a hushed awkwardness, not relaxing at all and not easy to have a conversation over dinner. The atmosphere for us was poor. We found the food ok but not stunning. Perhaps we were expecting too much. We were not expecting it to be cheap but we certainly did not feel we received value for money and to include a 12.5% service charge was totally not merited. We would not return.

My wife and I had the vegetarian gnocchi dish. It comes with 4 very large gnocchi and a lot of beans. The gnocchi was very unpleasant with a floury doughy texture and we ended up leaving some. The beans were nice enough but a plate of beans for the price of this dish is far from good value.||We had a starter (goat cheese ice cream and tomatoes) which was okay, a large glass of wine and coffees.||The bill came with 12.5% service already added which made it over £200 for 2 people. I would expect fine dining at the level of a Michelin Star or Bib level for that price and this was nowhere close.

We loved our stay at the Peacock - so many special things about it, from the incredible history of the building, to its beautiful gardens and Riverside walk. Lovely food with kind attentive touches - tea & shortbread on the terrace made for a very warm welcome. Best of all was the outstanding service - thank you Hilary!

The bar was lovely. Really cosy with lots of atmosphere. The dining room however was very different. It’s a long room with tables down each side. There was absolutely no atmosphere and it just felt really cold and not at all welcoming. The staff were friendly but it all felt a bit stilted and unnatural. Luke they were scared to put a foot wrong or show any personality. |The food was gorgeous. Really tasty and fresh but the portions were small. We ended up stopping on the way home for a packet of crisps! |This would be so much nicer if the staff relaxed and the dining room was rearranged and decorated.

We stayed here on our wedding night and it was simply superb from start to finish. Great service, we were made to feel welcome and looked after throughout. We had the tasting menu in the evening and all our compliments to the chefs, they should be proud of what they are doing because that was easily one of the best tasting menus we’ve had. Just class from start to finish and very well thought out.

Just when you think it can’t get any better, breakfast! Wow, one of the best cooked breakfast’s we’ve ever had the pleasure of eating.

The whole stay was a lovely and welcome break, you get what you pay for. An absolute gem.

A true Michelin experience at a non-michelin price!
We had ‘ lighter lunch’:3 course à la cart, except the mains was half size. What a genius idea the food was superb the service excellent and the room had a very nice ambience bit of a drive but it was worth it would definitely go back.
