The Priory Retreat is a beautiful hotel situated in an immaculately kept golf course and gardens. Unfortunately our stay was less than perfect thanks to a number of problems:

1) Room soundproofing is inadequate, meaning that on our first night we were treated to the sound of screaming children in the room adjacent to ours until 1am. Even better, on the second night the family had been replaced with a gang of drunken simpletons, presumably celebrating a price-freeze on cans of Stella. Their high-decibel revelry lasted until 5am, despite three calls from us to reception asking to quiet them down.

2) To further emphasize the hotel staff's inability to keep a lid on noisy guests, the abovementioned pride of England were seen in the hotel restaurant the next morning, openly laughing about the many times that security "told them off" during the night.

3) On our first morning at the hotel, room service came knocking at 8:45. My fiance and I were both still getting ready so asked them to come back at a later time, only to find upon returning to our room in the evening that the bed was still unmade, towels hadn't been changed etc.

4) We ate at the hotel restaurant on our first night and despite the food being quite good, they clearly have a staffing issue. Simple orders had to be repeated multiple times and two drinks that were intended to accompany our entrées finally arrived when we'd finished our desserts.

It's a shame really as there's so much to like about this place, but at its price point you'd really consider most of the things I've highlighted to be hygiene factors.
