One of the best dining experiences we've had. We are in the area for a holiday and we're recommended The Raven by our hosts as it's not only great but Dog friendly.

We felt very welcome, the customer service was impeccable, the owners were lovely, the servers were great, the food was incredible (all made fresh too!).

We came in for dinner both days we were in the area, I'm sure we will be back again.

Pub is fine, friendly and helpful. The staff were attentive to our needs.
However, our Sunday lunch was disappointing.
Whilst the beef on my meal was great tasting, the roast potatoes were way too tough.
The vegetables accompanying were over cooked. One carrot, a mountain of peas and strange tasting Cabbage.
Altogether pretty disappointing, more so becuase we had heard good reports of this place, if a little expensive. If the meal had been cooked well, I think the price would have been about right. Sorry, I really wanted to post a good review.

Wow, what a difference! NEW OWNERS! The menu is amazing, the new staff are fantastic! Came here again with my partner. They were so accommodating and the food was incredible! I had the vegan wellington and the chocolate and pecan tart with rhubarb ice cream. Thoroughly recommend!!

My last review, from February….By far, the worst experience I have had, ever. My fiancé and I came in for a spontaneous Saturday lunch, admittedly we didn’t call ahead and book. (I had previously heard good reviews about their vegan offerings.)
On arrival, we were the only people in the bar area, and the friendly bar lady said we could sit in the bar as we had the dog. There was only a vegan salad on the starters and no vegan mains, I asked if they could accommodate a vegan, and they said could customise the falafel and halloumi burger. When the meals arrived, my burger was without a bun (I overheard them say to each other that the bun had dairy in, but didn’t explain that to me) and the patty was awful. It was just mashed chickpeas, with no spice or flavouring, and no dressing or sauce. It was inedible. I ate some of the salad, and when the waitress came back over and asked if it was okay, I politely explained that it wasn’t very nice. She was very apologetic and asked if she could replace it with anything else, and I asked if I could have the salad starter. My partner finished his and a few minutes later, I saw the waitress leave the kitchen and heard the chef shout “I hope they choke on it”, to which the waitress just giggled and brought it to my table. In utter disbelief at what I just heard I explained I had heard him and would like to speak to the manager. Both waitress and manager were very apologetic and it wasn’t their fault. I left in shock and was really upset for hours afterwards. I would never eat in this place again, and I will never frequent this venue. I would not recommend it and I think the chef should not be in this industry. The front of house staff were friendly and polite, but being told “I hope they choke on it” purely for having a dietary requirement is abhorrent.

Wow wow wow. Went for a meal last night for a special birthday. We were immediately made to feel welcome and had been set up in a quiet corner as another event was taking place. Martin was great on front of house and all staff were polite and did a great job. But hats off to Louise who presented 10 incredible meals, all cooked to perfection and in a really timely manner.
I had the goats cheese starter followed by the most incredible venison steak. Cooked perfectly! All diners were so pleased and all said how delicious the food was.
I will of course be returning to try more from the menu.
Well done Louise and Martin, the place is a true credit to you. You're doing a wonderful job 🥰

The Raven looked after us brilliantly on Sunday. We had a table in the window of the bar area which suited our group of 10 (+2 dogs) perfectly. The food was delicious, varied and perfectly suited for Coeliac’s Vegetarians and fussy children etc. We really couldn’t fault the kind friendly service. It was a joy, Thank you so much!

We were a group of 4 and following a very warm welcome were shown to our table.
2 chose the Sunday roast sirloin of beef which was cooked beautifully. The accompanying vegetables were cooked perfectly, broccoli had a lovely crunch, cheesy leeks were creamy and full of flavor. 2 of us chose the Hake dish with pea and pancetta cream sauce. This was outstanding and the star of the show. You can tell this pub prides itself on the freshness and quality of the meat and fish and everything is cooked to big city standards. Even though we were pretty full, we made a space for dessert. Banoffee pie and lemon and pimms cheesecake. Both clearly home made and exquisite. Very reasonably priced and the atmosphere is one which is clearly the focal point of village life, sociable and friendly.

A great discovery. Very warm and friendly welcome. Great staff and banter. Open fires burning well in all rooms. A diners pub. Had a delicious evening meal. It's a Wadsworth pub with a difference. The beer is served direct from barrels behind the bar.
Highly recommended.
