Stayed for a few nights. Such a warm welcome and looked after really well. Food was so delicious we ate there twice for dinner. Small downside that they don't do breakfasts but there at plenty of cafes and other hotels within 100m that do,
Location couldn't have been better for us. In the middle of the market place (small market on Fridays), with shops all around. Helmsley Castle within walking distance with the beautiful Rievaulx Abbey just a few miles down the road.
Will definitely stay there again.

A warm and comfortable place to stay. The staff and locals made us feel really welcomed. We enjoyed our stay from start to finish, and were sorry to say goodbye. We highly recommend The Royal Oak as a great place for couples, families, and four legged friends. Centrally located with easy access to the natural beauty of North Yorkshire.

Excellent home cooked pub food, a warm welcome and friendly and helpful staff. Very accommodating getting a group in at short notice on a Saturday night, nothing too much trouble.

We had excellent meal here this afternoon. Brilliant steak and ale pie, mashed potatoes and garden peas. Pastry good, crispy and tasty, full of rich steak. Jug of good gravy. Good, prompt service. Welcoming place. Loved it. Thank you.

Not a great establishment but in a nice village. Our hosts gave off an impression of not being too bothered we had arrived, our shower was dirty, the bar not too clean and the room overpriced. Why is it that some establishments assume that because their pretty village/town is popular they can up the price and provide a poor service. We had hoped to book breakfast when we arrived as the website we booked through stated. Unfortunately they needed a lot more advanced warning. We tried two other places next morning who also didn’t seem in a rush to provide the breakfast advertised. If you dnt want custom dnt advertise you are open. However there are better pubs to stay in around the area and whilst some may be dearer they are clean and provide a more professional service.

We arrived and as our first night needed to eat. A warm welcome & we ordered. Wow, Steak Pie devine & big jug of Gravy.
Lasagna deep & tasty. Chips home madw too.
We made here our local, came for drinks & to watch the Football one night. Good choice of Beers.
We ate a second time here, Gammon lovely & Hubby had to have the Pie again. 2nd time just as tasty. Excellent value.
Well done to staff who made us feel welcome.

We would recommend this very highly it was quieter than other establishments,We had drinks and a Christmas meal, we all thought it was lovely food and great real ale, lovely friendly staff, we will look at staying there next time we are in Helmsley.
