What can I say about this place? Myself and my Wife booked to stay here for two nights we read some reviews which were pretty mixed and we arrived not sure what to expect. But our anxious thoughts were soon put to rest. From booking in right through to leaving this place was brilliant. The staff friendly and welcoming. Our room we stayed in the Grand was just amazing the pictures the plants the decor was something out of the ordinary. The stuffed Crows on a gate in a built in glass frame took a few minutes to get our heads around but it was brilliant to see in there. The whole atmosphere of the place was so relaxed I read people saying it was to dark but the lighting helped to make the feel of the place so relaxing. No tvs in the rooms is another great touch as well the radio provided was enough to keep us entertained. The food was unreal so tasty and cooked to perfection Michlin star quality as to be expected considering who it was cooked by. This place is quirky unusual and just a pleasure to stay in. If you book to stay here and are expecting to stay in a standard hotel then don't book to stay. You have to have an open mind and be able to appreciate the uniqueness of the place. We will 100% be coming back to stay again sometime in the future.

Had a really enjoyable overnight stay. The house is amazing, the staff attentive and food delicious.
The house is quirky and the more you look, the more you saw. Nigel, out breakfast waiter, was beyond lovely and was the cherry on the top for a fantastic stay. Already looking to stay again.
It's worth noting it's easy to miss the entrance if you are driving from the direction of Bath. Beds in the cost rooms are a little soft, my that is totally down to individual preference.
All in all really can't recommend this hotel enough!

First, the positive - the hotel is in a beautiful location. The room was comfortable and the decor around the hotel is interesting and eclectic (so long as you are OK with dead animals).||Now the negatives - one of the members of staff was incredibly rude and offensive. Our table for dinner wasn't ready so we went to the bar and ordered a bottle of wine. What we were served was not the wine listed on the menu and just wasn't very nice (particularly for the high price being charged). We politely complained and this member of staff was incredibly rude and patronising. Eventually, we got the wine changed, but ended with a more expensive one. This whole exchange slightly spoiled our evening - a shame since it was our 23rd Wedding Anniversary.||It also wasn't helped by the menu choice being very poor and limited - with us having to argue for vegetarian options for my wife (no vegetarian options were included on the menu) - which was basically just a tin of tomatoes over some gnocchi! Gave bland a bad name!||When checking-out, the same member of staff was on reception. I pointed out that we had been upset by his rudeness and asked for an apology and suggested that we should be offered a discount on the wine. Not only did he refuse - both an apology or a discount - but he was rude again, and whilst we were asking if there was someone more senior we could speak to (he told us that there wasn't), he took payment from my credit card without my permission and then said we were "black listed" from the hotel, for having complained.||To be honest, we wouldn't want to stay there again anyway. Rude staff, poor menu choice and mediocre food.

We stayed for one night with our brother and sister-in-law, and I can honestly say, we have never been to a hotel where the staff are so unfriendly. When we arrived we couldn’t get a coffee or drink and was told very abruptly to comeback after 3.00pm.||When we eventually were able to book in, we were advised we were in the cosy room in the other building no one showed us to our room. ||We decided to go to the bar for a drink after waiting at least 15 minutes the bar man turned up no apologies for keeping us waiting, and when we asked for our cocktail that came with our deal, that we no choice only the one that was horrible. Then we were advised they had NO Barcardi as this is the only drink myself and sister-in-law drink we had to have Coke a Cola for the rest of our stay.|We went to the bar before going into dinner, only to find a pool of water on the floor, we told the barman, and he said he new there was a leak in the roof, I advised him that this is a health and safety hazard and some one could slip, to which he replied he was closing the bar after we left, but this should have been done before.||The dinner wasn’t great and all the supplements just added to the disappointment.|After dinner we went into one off the, lounges to relax and chat only to be advised by the barman he was closing, the rooms and we had to go back to our room.|There was no lights and it was dark we had to use our phones to see as it was raining and very slippery, again another health and safety hassard.||Breakfast was just as bad the only light was a standard lamp which was to far away from our table, yet again we had to use our phones to read the menu, and again added supplements ie £5 for a tiny glass of orange juice.|I have stayed in lots of hotels in this country and abroad and this is definitely the worse hotel, the staff need to have Customer service training and the hotel definitely needs to be looked at for heath and safety reasons. We will not be returning.

Absolutely stunning place. If you appreciate good food, art, sculpture, photography, antiques then this is the place for you. The rooms are spacious and stylish. The lounges of which there are 4 are like mini museum/galleries. It’s peaceful, comfortable, relaxing and just oozes style from the moment you arrive.

We booked this place last minute for the night, stumble along a deal which inc dinner and breakfast. Bargain right!?

Well upon arrive this are NO signs to tell you where you’re going, not even to show you where reception is. Once we figured that out and got our keys we were pointed to another building and couldn’t find our room (again no signs).

As we had booked in for dinner we arrived and was sat with a menu that was NOT the one we’d seen and loved online. No vegetarian option. When I asked them, their response was “do you eat fish?” … no I’m a vegetarian.
Sides and steak were extra and service was ok. Not offered water or a second drink throughout our meal.

Room was okay, very squeaky bed and taxidermy items. Decor across the whole hotel is very … quirky and unique. Not really our thing.

Breakfast again had limited options and orange juice at £5 per glass!

Upon Arrival - We were asked to move our cars to the back of the car park, for no apparent reason. Other cars soon parked at the front and were not asked to move their cars.

Shepherds Hut - There was no gas in the lighter to set the fire. It was a cold night. I may have been able to get a replacement, but did not feel comfortable talking with the reception staff (see below)

Reception / Night Staff - We arrived back from work late, around 1am, and two members of the reception staff marched out and started demanding answers ("We didn't know you would be arriving late" / "Are you guests", and such), and they both went inside after a brief explanation. Around 30 seconds passed, and they both re-emerged and said other customers had called to complain. This must have been impossible as we were only in the car park for around 60 seconds in total and simply drove in and was met immediately by the staff.

Breakfast - My colleague is a vegan. This was met with contempt by the breakfast staff who was impatient and rude when going through the available options. There was an additional cost to having a vegan breakfast, as you must choose from the 'extras' menu, rather than choose from the included items. Even if there was an alternative, the breakfast staff did not highlight that this would be at an additional cost prior to placing the receipt on the table. The baked beans arrived with a slice of fried bread floating in it.
