Tiny room. Tiny bathroom. Not that clean in that there seemed to be a lot of dust about and a hair on the sink (yuk). For £127.00 a night with no breakfast included then another £9.00 for parking I'd never go back. There's no bar either in case you wondered. On the plus side the 2 women a young and older lady on reception were very pleasant and it's not their fault the place has an unclean (need a refurb) feel about it.

I was wary of booking after reading some of the reviews but my son is at University in Sheffield and this is the closest hotel to him so thought we should at least try it once. I definitely didn’t have the same experience as others! The hotel is set in nice grounds. Reception area is inviting and the staff were lovely. The room was great, just what we needed to use as a base, spacious and clean. The only downside was the corridors had a strange smell……. We didn’t have breakfast so can’t comment on that. They had a function on the evening so we couldn’t use the bar but were offered drinks in the reception area. Will definitely stay again!

The report comes in 3 parts|1) The Staff - friendly, jovial, accommodating and always willing to go the extra mile, especially the various receptionists and dining staff. Excellent.|2) breakfast - the only meal available but couldn’t be better. Cooked to order, locally sourced and absolutely delicious and well cooked. As well as all of the other breakfast goodies such as cereals etc - a good variety.|3) the hotel - our room was comfortable, clean but there was a quirky side to it. Our room 110, was in the relatively new part of the hotel and spacious. We couldn’t see out of the windows because they were covered over. The floor was uneven, but safe enough. The floorboards in the room above creaked and people could be heard walking across the floor. The shower room would have benefited from a towel rail and some shelving as we had to store some of our washing materials in the main room.|Maybe difficult for disabled people to access parts of the hotel.|The car parking fee is rather expensive and parking by meter is available in the road outside the hotel.|Would I go there again? Yes - the location is very good, buses run into Sheffield town centre and Bakewell from outside the hotel and the nearby hospital. The botanic gardens are free and nearby, as is a Wetherspoons!

Review for The Rutland Hotel (2-Night Stay)

During my recent 2-night stay at The Rutland Hotel, I experienced both positives and negatives that future guests may want to consider.

Pros:

• The hotel’s location is excellent, just a short walk from the city centre and local transport options, making it convenient to explore the area.
• Uber pickups were frequent, which made getting around very easy.
• The hotel does offer parking, but the car park is quite small and charged at a daily rate. I found parking on the nearby side streets to be a better and cheaper option.

Cons:

• The staff at check-in were very friendly, but unfortunately, I had to move rooms due to the bathroom door not having a lock and being unable to close properly.
• The rooms felt very outdated and in need of refurbishment. Noise from the hallways and stairs was also an issue, which disturbed my sleep.
• The WiFi in the room was unreliable, with only 1 bar of signal that would frequently drop out.
• There were no power outlets near the bed, which was inconvenient for charging devices overnight.
• The bathroom was cramped, with no shelving or storage space, and the toilet was positioned awkwardly close to the shower glass, making it uncomfortable to use.

While the hotel’s location is great, the outdated rooms and lack of basic amenities like reliable WiFi and bathroom space made my stay less comfortable than expected.

Good hotel central for sheffield managed to get a parking space although arrived after 8pm. Parking £9 for 24 hous a good rate. Good welcome by staff, corridors a bit dated but rooms modern. Bathroom water pressure good, shower only. Breakfast was £10 extra but worth it as you had continental and cooked breakfast to order. I would stay again if in sheffield

Good location, just West of the city and an easy walking distance to the Hospitals, University and West street. ||The young lady on reception was friendly and competent. I didn’t see a bar, and as it was a fleeting visit I skipped breakfast. ||Quite a character of a building, a maze really. Not the most accessible place, so if you are travelling with people with mobility issues, definitely let them know in advance. I stayed in room 30, which was a double bedroom. Basically, a double bed squeezed into the tiniest room. It was clean and comfortable but incredibly hot. Warm shower. Quiet room. No USB ports, so I ended up using one in the back of the TV. ||I was on my motorbike, so parking in the carpark was easy enough, but it’s a small car park.

First of all , which hotel charges their guests for parking ? GREED ?
The room was warm and clean BUT as quite a few reviews over the years have stated that shins are caught when walking around the bed, glad we aren't the only ones.
Pipe work not complete and large holes in ceiling, this was reported over 5 years ago.
Power supply left near bed that once ran lights around the window ?
Very uncomfortable mattresses.
Window can't be opened more than 4 inches, and those security lights in back yard on ALL night.
I'm 6ft and my feet did not reach the floor whilst sitting on loo ? Bizarre ! My wife is 5 1/2 foot tall and could swing her legs like a child
Toilet seat loose and bracing bar on shower screen hanging off ?
Soo glad it was only for 1 night. ?

Had cause to stay at the Rutland Hotel as my wife had an appointment for tests at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital - so it was an anxious time for us. The hotel was perfectly placed only a short walk from the hospital which was the primary reason we booked it. We had travelled from Northern Ireland and so didn't know the area well. Our stay was comfortable with a clean room, which included a modern bathroom. There is no air conditioning, which we knew was the case. The staff were very pleasant and the breakfasts were delicious. It would be nice if there was a restaurant in the hotel for dining though. We ordered a pizza on our first night, which was delicious. The paid parking for our hire car was fine. Yes, the hotel is a little tired in places and could do with some tlc re the window frames and some decor, but this didn't affect our stay one iota. Bottom line is we'd have no qualms about staying again.... hopefully in somewhat less onerous circumstances...!
