We have visited this wonderful pub several times lately. You can always rely on a friendly welcome by the excellent, hard-working staff here. The surroundings add to the experience.
We have tried most things on the menu and have always been impressed by the quality on offer. It is very popular so I would suggest booking prior to your visit.
The bar is well stocked with a selection of real ales.
A special mention for the Bakewell pudding which is to die for!

Stayed here on a drive north and it was a very lucky find! Lovely country inn in a quiet spot at the edge of the village. Stayed in a beautiful room which was excellent value. Tasty food in a sunny outdoor area. Happened to be on a pub quiz night which was fun! Very handy for Stanage Edge, either a short drive or a scenic walk. Comfortable and friendly stay.

My wife and I went out for a drive in the Hope Valley and ended up stumbling across this hidden gem. We popped in to see if they could accommodate us for Sunday lunch and were immediately welcomed and found a table. The ambiance was fantastic, really friendly and relaxing, and the service provided by Sylvia was second to none. But the food! My wife had the beef and I had the lamb and it was absolutely exceptional. The accompanying veg were cooked to perfection and the cauliflower cheese was magnificent. We will definitely go back and we can thoroughly recommend this pub.

I always wanted to live on an pub in and this was the best first experience I could think of. The rooms were pristine, pub was warm and cosy, and so was staff. The location was not quite in middle of the town so it was peaceful and close to the walks. If I ever go there, I am staying there again. They also have the chair of Little John who was related to Robin Hood.

To be honest, I was just a bit unsure about paying £19 for fish and chips but I was really impressed when my plate arrived. Beautiful piece of fresh haddock in perfect batter served atop good chips and alongside proper mushy peas. My son had the same and was also impressed.
Beer quality was good too, nice pint of Asahi , but I was a bit underwhelmed by ale selection hence my choice of lager; that is not a reflection on quality of ale just on what was being offered for my taste buds.
Would love to revisit. Sorry no pics.

Called for Sunday Lunch on 16th Feb - the food was fab and the service excellent.|We were early for our booking but they sat us down as soon as they could after serving us drinks at the bar. Table had been cleaned and cutlery etc re-set. Our waitress was Sylvia and she was fabulous, nothing was too much trouble and she was professional and friendly. We didn't know what to expect with the Sunday Dinner but it was fab and there was plenty on the plate! Would highly recommend and hopefully Sylvia will be in serving with a smile.

Stayed here New Year's Eve, room was lovely, bed comfortable and the bedding top quality for a greats nights sleep. Great selection of hot drinks to make with biscuits and an authentic Bakewell pudding which was a treat. We come here regularly after our walks in the peaks, so know the food is delicious but unfortunately it was a set menu on NYE which really didn't appeal to us so didn't eat here which was such a shame as we would have loved to. Breakfast was amazing, Robert was such a darling, great chat and so warm and charming. The service was faultless. We'll be back soon. Thank you for a wonderful stay.

Came here for a post walk lunch and had the Festive 3 course menu. Extremely good value and tasty food. The pub has a lovely atmosphere, a real fire burning in the corner, and dogs are welcome too. Sylvia looked after us; she was incredibly attentive, we didn't have to wait long to order/replenish our drinks and we had a lovely chat with her too. We will definitely be visiting again!
