Such a peaceful little location and a nice little day out for the children.
We like to sit outside on a warm day and let the children have a run around and play on the outdoor games.
As for the food, so delicious and I also love that they cater for gluten free now which is definitely a bonus for us!
We can not wait until it re opens again next year! 😊

Came here for lunch/cream tea for my husband's birthday. I called just before opening hours to confirm they were open as usual. The gentleman promptly called me back to reserve a table for us as they were quite busy - very thoughtful!

The food was brilliant. Really lovely pizza and the scones were amazing. Our puppy came along and had a great time meeting the horses!

Oh and the ice cream was amazing too!

Highly recommend this place and we'll definitely be back!!

The Shire is a beautiful place, they provide the most delicious food, drinks and ice cream. When it came to choosing a venue for a small (30ish people) wedding reception, we couldn’t think of a more romantic and scenic venue than The Shire, where we knew that the food would be simply out of this world! Setting up this event, both Lisi and Daniel were excellent, allowing My wife, myself and her family to visit the venue and decide how we were going to set up for the day. Communication was excellent and despite a few misunderstandings on our part, a delicious afternoon tea selection was put together for our wedding guests along with arrangements to serve their gorgeous home-made ice cream for all our guests. The price was also excellent value for money!

The day before the event, Lisi was amazing with helping my in laws and myself set up the venue. Lisi was very accommodating to our needs and was full of suggestions and ideas when the rest of us became stuck on how to arrange the decorations or needed a second opinion, which we are so very grateful for. Lisi really went above and beyond that day!

On the day of our wedding, we walked into the venue and were simply blown away! It was set out beautifully, the tables were set out with this magnificent display of Afternoon tea’s! – forget Betty’s – The Shire is the real top place to go for Afternoon Tea in Yorkshire!! The food was all homemade and all guests were satisfied with their selections praising our choice for such a beautiful venue with such tasty food. The grounds and views around are breath-taking and made amazing wedding photos, our photographer was thrilled with our venue choice as he could capture our pictures with a diverse set of lighting and landscapes.

We are so very grateful for the hospitality of The Shire (Lisi Daniel and their lovely children) who made our wedding day so special. If you are considering holding an event or a small wedding reception at the Shire, I would advise you to get booked in!! You definitely will be making the right choice and I’m confident that you will be met with the same warm hospitality that we were.

The sharing platter is fantastic. All the items are of a very good quality and include sour dough bread, tasty pork pie, ham, selection of cheeses and pickles, apple, grapes and crackers. The platter is presented beautifully and is very good value for money. The young man on the counter is extremely polite and has excellent customer service skills. The gelato looked delicious but unfortunately we had no room for any on this visit.....but we will definitely try it next time. Highly recommended venue.

So beautiful and wonderful value and large portions! Just wish they were open more as the traditional games in the gardens are delightful and the whole place is so lovely with the friendliest staff.

A delightful place to take a break or walk to. Walked from Fangfoss to Bishop Wilton and stopped for a coffee on the way back. Great views with outside areas to sit, dogs welcome too. Had their pulled pork sandwich - delicious! Definitely going back, great service and friendly staff.

The Shire is a fabulous little cafe. We arrived and got the last table. The sharing platter for one is such good quality food. My husband had the pulled pork that was delicious.
The ice cream is well worth a visit for too

We came here before Father's Day. The food (pulled pork & beef brisket) was so delicious! The gelato was amazing too, I've found a lot of gelato disappointing after travelling to Italy. But this was delicious and I can't wait to go back! 🍨
We didn't sit outside but there were lots of games, it was very relaxed! A lovely family business.
