Booked 5 weeks ago for a spa day with friends. I bought a treatment also and assumed the price included a massage. I can't have a facial due to allergies. When I realised it wasn't an option, I asked for it to be removed. They refused and said I could upgrade to a massage for an additional £20!

I understand if cancelled just before but was 5 weeks prior and due to a medical condition.

Check in took ages and staff looked fed up.

Hardly any lockers worked, most broken.

Spa was packed when arrived and nowhere to sit other than outside in the cold.

Jacuzzi had loads of white foam in and stank so badly of bleach our eyes were pink and steaming so had to get out.

Food was absolutely tiny or lots of additional extra charges.

Showers had mould in.

Massage was nice but at the price I was forced to pay I was expecting great things. Lasted 40 minutes, not 50 and the room was freezing.

Money grabbing, unethical company. Would never come back again. 2 star place at best.

Always a lovely experience, great staff, great views, cake and drinks lovely. The hot tubs inside could do with a proper clean/ replacement- which is the only reason for not giving 5 starts

This was our 3rd Year going to Mottram for a girls treat and whilst all the Staff and surroundings are lovely I was so disappointed with this year's experience. Firstly and this sounds picky but no flip flops to fit me either small or large ! - then the time of my treatment was moved to an earlier slot 3 hours earlier !!! We all went up for lunch and I can only describe it as get as much money from you even though the lunch is in with the spa deal. We ordered our side order of potatoes £5.50 - what came was shocking - 2 and a half small new potatoes The diet coke bottles were the smallest I have ever seen and whilst the food was ok it just felt that it was a game to get you to part with more money !! - This will probably be our last year with this spa. To finish off even the outside pool had no jets so no bubbles for us ladies - did look to see if there was a money slot to start them lol - but no they were broke !! Very disappointed good job us ladies can laugh through our experience!

I have recently reached the grand old age of 80 and my relatives sent me a £350 voucher for Mottram Hall. I live in Stockport and I thought of visiting Mottram Hall and getting some good information what I can get for £350. As I don't drive I went by train to Prestbury and walked the rest of the way, I wasn't prepared for a pedestrian unfriendly road, I walked across various fields for part of the way, it think it was 2M. As I reached the Hall they couldn't really help me. I don't think it was their fault, I believe you are all totally paperless and being oldfashioned I was hoping to get something in print. So, I didn't really get much information but was given the Central Reservation telephone number to call them when I have decided what to book. I was told that the prices vary a lot from day to day. So, I walked back to Prestbury station and caught the train back to Stockport. Michelle Helps from Stockport

Firstly after reading some reviews I was hesitant, however it really was quite good... so pleasantly surprised.

THE SPA:
The spa was nice, big enough with different pools , saunas etc.. and a nice outdoor area with loungers etc.. it was a relaxing environment...imagine it gets busy at the weekend however. You can join classes for a small fee and enjoy a three course lunch, dinner allowance and breakfast!

Although some things were closed for repair, again these things happen..more than enough open for use.

THE TREATMENTS:
Although good, they have a higher price than most..I don't think it's essential to get a treatment...just enjoy the spa.

THE HOTEL:
Our room was ok, as expected really. All you need, a little dated but Champneys had been around for a while. The doors do slam so bring ear plugs.

THE FOOD:
The food was really nice and displayed elegantly and all the staff seemed great and look ..mistakes happen, orders sometimes can be missed in a busy kitchen, that's just life!

I think the main reason for the bad reviews are possibly they arrive with an unrealistic expectation for the price? It is expensive but it's a big hotel and lots of people to attend to, golfers, corporate and weddings. Check in can be busy as only a small space.

My main if only real criticism of the spa area was that although it opens early at 7.00am when we came the day after around 9.30am there were still empty drinks and glasses from the night before. I would have expected to arrive to a clean spa before it opened.

Would definitely come again!

Excellent facilities, but really writing to say who amazing Kalsoon was with my massage! She mixed different massage techniques, including some from her Indian culture and I left feeling energised, balanced and full! Fantastic from her

Really Disappointing. Sadly it did not live up to our expectations. I was treating my mum after some operations and with me coming home from Dubai to take her for a spa day, I was really hoping it would be something special. Sadly it wasn't. First of all, the ladies on reception as we walked in were gossiping and clearly not interested on who was coming in. I gave our names and mentioned that my mum had a broken wrist and I wasn't sure what she could enjoy as a result. The lady just said "oh". She passed us our forms and said she would show us where to go, but instead pointed us in the general direction, saying the changing rooms are up there, spa is down there, treatment rooms are there, etc. We were left suitably confused as to where to go to get changed. We asked someone walking past to confirm and were directed to the gym changing rooms. I tackled the lockers for a while without success and then I went out to try and get help. A kind lady from the spa came to help us and also struggled to sort the combination locks on the lockers. After 10 mins she then realised we were there for the spa day and that we were in fact in the wrong changing rooms. She helped carry our bags and took us to the correct changing rooms. These were so much nicer, with a card for a lock on the locker, which was much easier to use particularly for mum who had just had an operation on her eyes. She also offered mum a complimentary coffee to try and appease us. I went in the gym which is well equipped and then I joined mum for a coffee after. You get a complimentary fruit board, but have to pay for all tea and coffee. I feel that for 139, to include one cup of tea or coffee wouldn't go amiss. The spa itself with the pool and jacuzzi is actually really nice. The facial was also very good with the ladies very experienced and helpful. Lunch was very average and very small. I chose the soup for starter, which was tasty and the waitress brought over 2 of the tiniest pieces of bread (fit for an elf as it is Christmas after all I guess) and the duck for a main. The duck came with a blob of squash and a couple of vegetables. Having seen the people sat next to us receive theirs, they recommended us ordering some sides as it was minimal, so we ordered garlic potato as a side at an additional cost. This was a very small portion of 3 purple potatoes, which looked like they had literally been picked out of the ground and dumped on the plate. Overall, lunch was also disappointing. We spent the rest of our time chilling by the pool, which was nice and we did manage to make the most of our day, as we were thrilled to be with each other after Covid had kept us apart for so long, but I really wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. The reception staff were very interested in looking pretty and taking selfies as opposed to ensuring the (over)paying customer had a wonderfully relaxing experience. Such a shame we won't be going back, as Mottram always used to be our go to spa. Don't go here for a treat day, unless you like being ignored. It's a waste of money.
