Lovely pub. Excellent service. A very pleasant lunch with (local) Balfour wines. I enjoyed the selection of 3 small sparkling wines; a nice idea. Very good menu choices with vegetarian options. We also had a toddler with us who was well catered for with high chair, drawing materials and special menu. It is now winter but I have also eaten here in the summer which is lovely as the outside seating area basks in sunshine.

We stayed there for 5 nights seeing family in town. WONDERFUL rooms, food, and service. Mark was so helpful for lodging adjustments and around town recommendations. We had breakfast there everyday and dined for dinner twice, but we could’ve ate there every night. Food and service were top notch. Rooms were clean, updated, and spacious. Will definitely be staying there again - Highly recommend!!

My daughter who lives locally booked us in. Super efficient place and lets me know by text and email, confirming and letting me book in on line. Including car parking! We stayed overnight - and will do again- had evening meal 4 people absolutely superb. Good quality food, portions and excellent service. Sensibly priced, team seemed to care and took pride in their operation and customers. Fully recommend

From arrival we were made very welcome by Mark, he showed us up to the room personally and explained about the fire exit and other things about the room. The room was very luxurious with a coffee maker and top quality tea, coffee, biscuits. Big comfortable bed. Bathroom was also very nice. Towels were nice and thick and smelt lovely, shower gel was also top quality. We also had a meal in the restaurant which was delicious and cooked exceptionally well, thanks Adrian and frankly. All the staff were very friendly and helpful, breakfast was also excellent, overall a great stay can highly recommend and would return, well done. We took up the offer for Sunday night stay where you get the room for 20£ if you spend 125£ for food and drinks, great value for money.

Food was good but by the time my dish was served, others in my group were finishing or had finished theirs. They tried to apologise for this by giving others in the group a free coffee. But not me. The pub was not busy as it was 9 a.m. on a saturday
This wont stop me returning but i hope the chaotic kitchen improves.

We had Sunday lunch at the tickled trout recently and it was fine. The pub itself is really cosily decked out and dog friendly. I had the scallop starter which was tasty but really quite tiny. The beef cheek croquettes were yummy but probably bigger than my starter even though they’re on the nibbles list!
We chose to have roasts and the beef was very chewy. If going for a roast I would choose one of the slow cooked options as the pork was much nicer. The accompaniments are all plentiful but nothing to write home about. Nice freshly done yorkshire’s come with it though.
Desserts are quite generic options, very stodgy with bottled sauces or custard on top.
It’s a nice cosy little pub but I think careful choices need to be made for the menu. We thought it was fine but wouldn’t go out of our way to return at all!

We spent 2 nights here - the night before and the night of our son's wedding. The rest of the bridal party - including the Bride and Groom - stayed here on the wedding night. The Manager, Mark, was quick to address and resolve a couple of problems that cropped up as a result of an engagement party taking over the entire restaurant and bar the night before the wedding. The rooms were clean, cosy and comfortable. The breakfasts were great - especially the one for 24 people the morning after the wedding. Nothing was too much trouble. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and appreciate the care Mark and his team took of us all. Thank you.
