Just went for a meal based on reviews here as we were local. Sat eve at 8pm and we were the only diners!

Service was very slow. My partner enjoyed her fish meal - my lamb pie was ok but nothing special. We ordered puddings.... crumble was Luke warm and the choc slice sauce smelt like blue cheese. Along with warm Guinness zero (can from the fridge) - this wasn't the best experience. Hope it improves as the staff were very pleasant.

Lovey little pub with a nice atmosphere!! Came in for some food and drinks! The food was amazing I had the tandoori!! Would definitely have again was delicious. Cocktail menus will always be my favourite good deflection

We stayed in the separate converted barn, as you walk through its little private courtyard garden and into the property you are greeted with a light airy and spacious property.||The kitchen is well stocked and we’re comfortably able to make meals in the property. We did have a problem where the fridge broke down and both housekeeping and Brandon the manager were on the ball and got it sorted. ||We have a new born baby and they provided a lovely travel cot for us to use. ||The bathroom is a good size, with a powerful shower. ||One thing that would be good to add into the property is a coffee table of sorts in the lounge area. When your sitting and chilling (had to do a lot of that as the weather was so bad) we used a kitchen chair as a table in the lounge as it’s a little awkward putting the drinks and things on the floor, plus you worry about knocking it over onto the rug. It’s so minor though and only an ebi.||We had both breakfast and dinner in the restaurant and both were delicious. The ingredients was fresh and good sized portions. They clearly put a lot of passion into the restaurant. It is such a lovely relaxing atmosphere with a nice fire. ||Special thank you to both Brandon and the housekeeper (sorry I didn’t get your name). You were both so tentative and welcoming, which really makes the stay. ||We will be back!

What an amazing pub, great location, amazing food and extremely friendly and competent staff. My wife Carley and I stayed at the Tollgate a few days ago and had dinner too, the rooms are immaculate and very quiet.

I had the fishcake starter which was amazing, although a very rude customer calling himself a fishcake connoisseur wasn’t very happy with a pub being busy full of punters, the staff handled this situation professionally and catered to his every request even after the rudeness.

We will definitely be coming back here to try more of their lovely food.

The staff were very friendly, check inn was fast. I was shown to my room and was absolutely shocked. I booked a double room and ended up in ,what I can only call, a small flat. L-shaped sofa, smart TV, fridge, oven, and cooker. The bed was very comfortable and the bed linen was next level. I would very highly recommend this place and will definitely book again.

Absolutely appalling experience. Our family booked this pub for a large gathering (20+ people) and were assured there would be vegan and vegetarian options available. The menu had only one item marked "vegan option available" with no details, so I emailed for clarification—no response. After 24 hours, I called and was met with unprofessionalism beyond belief. The first lady laughed at my request for more information, admitted she had no idea, then proceeded to suggest completely non-vegan dishes before mocking me to a colleague as she handed over the phone.
When I finally spoke to the manager, his attitude wasn’t much better. He dismissed my concerns, admitted they don’t really cater for vegans because “we hardly ever have them in,” and brushed off the barmaid’s rudeness with no apology, or even recognition that it was an issue.
At first, the information given about the 'vgo' was good, they replaced the bun and cheese on the bean burger with vegan alternatives, however, when it came to the coleslaw and chips, i was told it would be guacamole. After i suggested that this wasn't really a meal alternative (no starters or desserts, just a burger with not sides) he begrudgingly to have something else cooked as an afterthought rather than genuine hospitality. By that point, I had zero trust in their ability to provide a safe, let alone enjoyable, meal.
An absolute disaster! If you have dietary requirements—or just expect basic professionalism—avoid this place at all costs.

I had dinner here last Friday night and it was just very average, which was super disappointing when considering it’s £18 for Fish and Chips. My mate had the Tollgate Burger and he wasn’t that impressed either.

Maybe you have changed chef from Xmas time, as this was my last visit and the food was superb.

To give you more context for why the food was underwhelming -

- The chips were anaemic. Triple fry them for more texture and also additional flavour
- The fish was very greasy and lacking flavour
- The burger patty was also lacking flavour

This was a lovely hotel, we got there quite late but key code details quite straight forward to get into the hotel and our room. Very comfortable bed and good shower.
