We searched for lunch in Plymouth looked at the new bit which all seemed quiet so proceeded to the barbican and choose the place that looked like everyone knew about ‘Village Seafood’ it didn’t have the glitz and glam no flashing lights or big promotional stuff outside but it had people! Lots of them so what do they all know that we currently did not…. Greeted straight away, given a table and menu which was actually three menus quite vast selection. I opted for Greek then changed my mind to seafood settled on a mixed grill then ordered Greek. If you are indecisive make sure you allocate more time here. I was swayed by the table next to me having moussaka as it looked superb. My partner who’s a catch went for the cold seafood which she received in abundance personally sometimes seafood I find it to be a little small for me but this plate was full so much so I had to assist. During this time I observed other plates and food envy is high everything just looked amazing not that I would have swapped mine I just wished I could eat 6 or 7 plates… as mentioned it’s not dazzling here there’s nothing spectacular about the place like the other ‘fancy’ big chain restaurants we looked into but they don’t need it. It’s all about the food which was spectacular and for me if I’m going out eating it’s my only concern to be honest I don’t feel they are trying to impress they are just doing food and doing it very well that it impresses you as standard. You want good food here it is. The service I also thought was great very attentive we were serviced very well only slight issue was with the amount of head on the beer, we asked, they fixed, problem solved. I would say prices were good too, living in Newquay where your stung as a tourist everyday it was nice to be a tourist and be saving money whilst vastly improving the quality and experience. I am looking forward to returning who knows what I will go for next… we all know it’s fish…pie.. of the day..pasta definitely something from the menu and of no doubt it will be great.

Been here several times now and every time the food has been incredible. Always hot, well cooked, generous portion sizes, and honestly just all round tasty. Service is always friendly and fast, and it's always busy. No matter when you visit. There are plenty of tables and it's clearly very popular. Highly recommend the moussaka, calamari, garlic mushrooms, surf and turf, and just about everything on the menu really.

We stumbled upon The Village Restaurant during our first visit to Plymouth and were lucky to get a table for lunch on a busy Bank Holiday Monday - no booking, just good timing! The restaurant is in a convenient location right on the historic Barbican.

The restaurant is small, bu the atmosphere is homely - it really does feel like you’ve stepped into someone’s front room rather than a typical restaurant. It’s family-run and has a lovely, authentic vibe. It was quite busy when we went, and the space between tables was a little tight, which made it feel a bit crowded.

Service was overall good. One of the ladies who served us was welcoming, but the other seemed a bit indifferent, perhaps due to the busy lunchtime rush.

The menu is quite big with a Greek twist. We ordered fish and chips and the seafood platter, and both dishes were absolutely spot on. The portions were generous, and the seafood was incredibly fresh. The tarama was freshly made and very tasty. You can tell they take pride in what they serve - truly delicious food.

All in all, we had a very good experience and would definitely recommend stopping by if you're in the area.

A Must-Try Fine Dining Experience at The Village Restaurant,Barbican, Plymouth
We had to go back for more!
This restaurant is in the heart of the busy Barbican. While table booking is essential due to its size, we were in luck on Saturday night to be able to walk in and enjoy another delicious dinner without a reservation.
The food here is so delicious, especially seafood and a great selection of drinks too.
The beef stroganoff is an absolute must-try! The seafood pasta is another standout, good portion and grilled octopus was packed with flavours, though the quantity was a bit small.
Friendly staff and welcoming atmosphere, it's the place to be!
Highly recommend for anyone looking for a memorable meal in Plymouth
We'll definitely eat here again!

Decent diner by the barbican, friendly staff, variety of selections on the menu. We ordered two mains, one is the seafood pasta, which was enormous in portion, we loved it. Another was the grilled octopus, which was average at best.

The food was piping hot and tasted amazing. I ordered the basmati risotto and there was more fish than there was rice which i loved! I hate paying for a meal and searching for scraps amongst rice. Personally I would have used Aborio Rice and it was ever so slightly on the drier side but the flavours and service were amazing.
