Such friendly staff and a cracking breakfast too! This hotel is in a great location for a Clifton visit - perfect for me to meet my old uni friends. ||We parked on site, and it was pretty reasonably priced. Our room was big enough and comfortable if not flashy - it felt like our room had definitely had a bit of a refurb recently! ||Would definitely stay again, we got a good deal!

The friendly and helpful staff are a great asset here. I stayed in one of the basement rooms which was actually fine - everything you needed, clean, comfortable beds - and had a window so it didn't feel enclosed. Breakfast - included in the price - was great, with items cooked to order. Just a shame that the decor could do with a bit of tlc. Location is great for the Uni, Clifton etc. Great value for money.

When I arrived I was welcomed with a worm welcome by the day staff, the room was great for myself and any solo traveler. The lovely lady who worked the evening was brilliant, she was happy to help with anything, I had a little trouble with my tape in my room and she was so happy to come up and have a look and get the repair man to have a look. The breakfast was hot and lovely, plenty of choice and lovely breakfast team too. Would definitely come back and would highly recommend this guest house.. thank you all at the washington

Excellent stay. Different staff from before but always pleasant, efficient and attentive (my regards and thanks again to Bea, Abi and Teresa on breakfast and Alice at reception who I choose not to forget; it was lovely to see Hannah too). 5* treatment in a super-well-located place with a fabulous breakfast and a great little restaurant/bar literally next door ('Racks'), pretty Clifton Village up the road, museums and green spaces on the doorstep.

Good value stay with clean facilities and very comfortable beds. A bit tired in the decor but good value with a nice cooked breakfast. All the staff were polite and very friendly. Busy at breakfast, but served with a smile still.

Stayed for a night & there was no hot water in the shared bathroom (I had to try 3 other shared bathrooms until I found one with hot water supply & even then, the pressure was very low). The staircase handrail was very unstable with spindles hanging loose- pull at it and you’d probably take the entire thing off. Friendly staff at front desk but nobody’s there after 10pm. Breakfast was nothing more than a kids portion (I am not exaggerating)- don’t ask guests how they want their ‘eggs’ when you only put 1 egg on the plate. Overall hygiene was poor (apart from the bed & towels). I thought this hotel would be good value for money but it’s a long way from it, I regret to say.

First impressions count, and the first impression of the single rooms in the basement at The Washington aren't great. These rooms are very small with single beds and have not been refurbished. The bathrooms for example give a terrible first impression (70s fittings, rust mirrors etc). Having said that, the bedding was clean, there was a good array of tea, coffee and some fruit in the room, a good hairdryer. The rooms were warm. The staff were lovely and as many people have said, the breakfast is excellent. I would stay again but not in the basement rooms. I hope these can be refurbished soon.

Their photos must be 3p years old. This is the most disappointing hotel I've ever had the misfortune to stay in. I was awarded a 30% refund and moved rooms after the first night but things did not improve. Also cleaning staff were not advised that we'd moved rooms so items forgotten in our first room were disposed of rather than transferred across. I will be writing to them requesting full reimbursement for our stay. I'm uncertain how they manage to lay claim to 3 stars and to add insult to injury, they charge guests £10 per night to park in their car park. We had 2 cars as we travelled from different parts of the country. Another disappointed paying guest said they'd like to sue for false advertising. The rooms are dilapidated, staircase rickety and the paid for breakfast was barely edible and below budget-Ive honestly never had worse. Even though we paid for it, we opted out on the second morning. I've afforded them 1 out of 5 because the staff were polite and tried to be helpful. This hotel needs to close for refurbishment. Clearly struggling in every aspect of hospitality. The floors are uneven and rather than repairing what is evidently a serious damp problem, they paint the walls and hope for the best. Steer clear if you are athsmatic, very young, or elderly. The bathrooms have seen better days and the hot water is scolding hot, which wouldn't be so bad if the cold wasn't a mere trickle. If you need to stay in Bristol and can't find a hotel or AirBnB; I'd suggest you give this a miss and stay in a hostel. That would definitely be a realistic, albeit better value, substitute/alternative.
