I stayed one night and had a single room. It was surprisingly spacious - more so than it looked in the picture - clean and comfortable. There was a good shower too. The hotel had ample off-street parking - always welcome in town centre hotels - and the staff were friendly. If I have one small suggestion - and I am being a bit picky here - a few croissants for the breakfast table selection wouldn't go amiss. That being said, the cooked food was nicely prepared and presented.

It was just one of those nights. We had been in the car all day in the appauling weather, visiting and laying flowers on graves. We could'nt have asked for a better welcome.||The room met our needs for the night. It was warm, dry and had a nice big shower cubicle. Tea and coffee facilities although no fridge. It was a little cramped but it was fine for one night. It was at the back of the hotel so there was no noise.||We went down to the bar and met four other fellow travellers. We had a pleasent evening and a nice meal. The lady running the bar was really friendly and joined in the conversations.||Breakfast the next morning was perfect and cooked to order.||The hotel is situated more or less in the town centre on one side of the river. It has plenty of free car parking at the back.||Be warned, there is no lift/elevator.||If I had one gripe, the bed was metal framed and squeaked every time one of us turned over,......but we were so tired, it did'nt matter!

have been staying at the White Lion Hotel with work once a week since August and I have to say it is one of my favourite hotels in Wisbech (I have tried a few) The I staff are so friendly and accommodating, always trying to help as I often arrive late. The rooms are all warm and homely with tea and coffee making facilities, good size TV plus the bath and shower facilities are fantastic. The food is freshly prepared hot and very tasty, I have tried most of the menu and cannot fault it at all. I leave early in the morning and they always offer a pack up as it is often before breakfast but if not they make the best hot coffee in the morning. Wisbech is a charming town and looks lovely at the moment decorated for Christmas. I can strongly recommend.

A good and very well run hotel with exceptional staff and management. Friendly and helpful at check in and the girl at breakfast went out of her way to help us with an issue. Would highly recommend. Breakfast was good quality and there were plenty of options. Room was fine, except for the mattress which was a bit hard and lumpy for us unfortunately. We also had a nice view of the river.

After making the booking and reading previous reviews we requested an upgrade to a room at the front of the hotel. This was agreed and despite offering payment over the phone we were advised we should pay on arrival. When we arrived we were shown to a room at the back of the hotel. It was small and not what we had reserved. We were then moved to a larger room at the front of the building. This was more suitable, however, we were then told we could only have it for the Friday night and have to move rooms on the Saturday as someone had booked that room and had paid. We felt this was unfair and strange as we were advised not to pay over the telephone. Hotel staff were apologetic but completely unwilling to allow us to remain in the room we had requested.
We went out for a meal and drinks but when we returned our larger room had been cleared; including all personal valuable possessions and dumped in a small room at the rear above the kitchen and outside bar area. Unacceptable.
Note: Rooms are Noisy at the back from bar and drinkers.
Poorly lit car park.
Despite pictures online the reception areas are tired and in need of attention. Rooms are not cleaned to a good standard.

Had a nice 2 day visit during a very hot spell of weather. Room was warm but we had a fan and opened the sash windows, king size bed and a TV. Breakfast 700 till 830 very nice freshly cooked with a choice of cerials fresh coffee and fresh juices.Very welcoming place and definitely recommend it for the price. Friendly staff in the center of town by the river and private parking to the rear.

I booked this hotel to attend a wedding. I needed a downstairs room as I am disabled. It was just across the road from venue, another couple in our party booked the other room next to ours.||The room seemed fine, lovely bathroom, a kitchenette, table and four chairs, & our own front door & lockable porch. The downside was no utensils so it could not be a self catering place (not what we needed) it did have a kettle, toaster & hospitality tray.||What it did not have was bedside lights or any facilities to put on the main lights from the bed. The light switch was approx 12' away from the bed past table & chairs for a disabled person very difficult in the dark.||We had to pay on arrival, which was odd. This was the only time the reception was manned. We were never able to actually complain. We were told on arrival that the restaurant was closed their chef was off sick, we were directed to The Red Lion, which for me disabled was too far to walk. A restaurant on site was why we booked.||It was noisy on the first night, like band practice or disco coming through the wall, which continued until 3 am. The second night the noise started 6.30 pm. It was so loud that the TV on full volume you could not hear it above the noise. The kettle & toaster jumped up & down to the beat. The noise continued til 1 am. It was horrendous & no one in reception to complain to. Another couple on the top floor said that the noise was loud even there.||This place needs to stop the noise & get more staff.

I went to the White Lion late afternoon, early evening before they were officially doing food. Chef starts at 6.30pm. The bar staff went out of there way to make sure we didn't go hungry and made us filled jacket potatoes as we needed to leave before the chef arrived. The food was delicious and well presented. All of the staff were friendly and helpful. We will now become regular customers.
