One night stay due to a family party in the area. This place represents excellent value for money and is a very nicely presented. The whole site is pleasing on the eye and internally there is a very consistent decor and look and very modern in its appearance. It is clear a lot of effort and thought has gone into the appearance and upkeep of this place. ||Our room was spotless and in tune with the whole place with very modern decor and all the facilities you'd expect to a high standard. ||The breakfast order was taken on arrival and was delivered quickly and efficiently the following morning. An excellent start to the day and couldnt fault the food or the lady who served us.||This building clearly has a past and it was actually nice to see its acknowledged with a potted history in the room and various historical photos on the walls which I though was a nice touch and quite interesting to look at. ||We didnt go in the bar on account that we'd had enough at our party but it certainly looked nice and Id have no hesitation using it should we stay again. ||There was a function on the night we stayed and as a result we could hear music in our room, but this place is marketed as a function venue and it was a Saturday night so there is no grounds for complaint as we knew this before we booked so it wasnt a problem for us. ||This place is worth 5 stars as its immaculate and serves a fine breakfast in nice surroundings and all at a very good price.

Found this small hotel online as an ideal location for a 3 night short break in the North East. The rooms are finished to a very high standard and come with a great breakfast included. We were made very welcome by Geoff and his team. Can't recommend this highly enough.

I went with my friend to spend the holiday in this town. The room was clean and had everything that we needed. Even though we were on New Year's Eve, they were willing to help us. I couldn't ask for the best service in this hotel, they make us feel at home. Thank you all, but overall, thanks to Geoff for the help and guidance. English breakfast, totally recommended here.

Found the Whitehouse online as was traveling to the area to have some work carried out to my camper-van, nothing is too much trouble, we arrived very late and Geoff waited up for us, he was then cooking us breakfast early the next day. I can't recommend the Whitehouse enough, if I ever come back to the area this will be the place l'll choose to stay again.

We're there for a wedding a very friendly place good parking hotel rooms very good close to Durham, Hartlepool, Sunderland can get train from Horden to Newcastle Middlesbrough and is only t 10 mins away

We stayed for a mid week 2 night visit (in the School holidays) because our teen daughter was visiting a friend in Durham. ||The hotel is lovely, and personal and a nice change from some of the chain hotels. Nice decor and a great back story, which adds to the charm. ||We were greeted by Alan, he was friendly and gave us our keys and took our breakfast requirements. ||We were in room 2 as a couple. The room had a lovely curved window and sea view (partially blocked due to another guest's van parked in front but that's not the hotel's fault). We sat and had tea in the window a few times. ||The room was clean, fresh towels, clean bathroom and complimentary toiletries just in case you forgot for a night. We didn't use them as we brought our own. Plastic cups provided for teeth brushing/ rinsing and to stand our brushes in, which was helpful. ||Mugs and small kettle provided and a selection of tea/ coffee and a couple of biscuits which was nice. Also a hair dryer.||Bed was comfy. Very soft, which is great for comfort but not good for my back issue, but this is no fault of the hotel, just to be aware that the mattress may be soft for travellers that aren't used to it. Quilt and pillows also really nice.||Breakfast was simple (in a good way) and really tasty. All air fried (I think) so not greasy and you can tell the sausage and bacon were good quality. Nothing was too much trouble and extra toast/ tea etc was always offered. Really friendly staff cooking and serving and just down to earth people.||We had a drink in the bar and Alan showed me the room they use for weddings/ events, it is really lovely and I'm sure lots more weddings/ wakes/ baby showers will take place there.||Thanks for a lovely stay, it felt comfortable, friendly and personal.

We work away regularly, and I have to say The Whitehouse has been our best experience ever. Not having the best of days, we arrived and immediately was cheered up by Geoff the owner. He went above and beyond. The hotel is to a beautiful standard, the beds comfy and nothing was too much. Being a coeliac I'm often nervous eating out, but Geoff made sure he got it right, and I was able to enjoy a safe cooked breakfast.

My family had everything they needed for a very comfortable stay. Staff are very warm, welcoming and very approachable. The room was clean and to a high specification. Thus is an excellent base to explore Durham. Breakfast was delicious! We shall definitely return.
