We booked this hotel due to its proximity to Buckingham Palace, Westminster Abbey etc and was not expecting too much. The hotel however turned out to be wonderful! Rooms were spacious, clean and very English and were reasonably priced. There is a little bit of noise from rooms above but nothing too bad, and the street noise was minimal. It was also within easy walking distance of many of London’s main sights. The included breakfast was a huge bonus - and was absolutely delicious! So many choices. The breakfast room became a little bar area later on which was a nice quiet little spot to relax. The owners were lovely and would definitely stay here again

Subject: Review Windermere hotel||The breakfast in this hotel is excellent. Both service and selection are exceptional. Out of 5 it rates a 6. It is worth visiting for breakfast even if one is not a guest.|The rooms are cosy. For some they may be considered on the small side although all conveniences in the rooms are provided . Larger persons may have an issue. I was quite satisfied.|Location - the hotel is centrally located around 9 minutes walking distance according to Google maps from Victoria station. It is - though with heavy luggage it may feel a bit longer. It is a convenient walking distance to the Apollo theatre and into central London - Westminster abbey, Houses of Parliament , the South bank, - Victoria is really centrally and conveniently located and hotels in this area are accessible via Victoria station from both Heathrow and Gatwick airports.|This hotel would tick all the right boxes but for one unexplained quirk- on a booking of 2 rooms - with one pre paid in full via Expedia from 9 months before, and with the other booking secured by credit card in the event of a no show, it insisted on charging the credit card for the full stay 2 days BEFORE arrival , rather than waiting for the guest on the booking to show and pay ON ARRIVAL as Expedia booking terms CLEARLY state. The card on the booking was available to be charged if the guest on the second booking did not show. It is unusual, unprecedented ,and concerning for FULL payment to be charged BEFORE the date of arrival. On bookings for 6 hotels on this extended trip- including 3 bookings of 2 rooms -none tried to apply any charge to the credit card BEFORE arrival, far less FULL payment. Expedia’s confirmation of this booking is absolutely clear that payment was due for it ON ARRIVAL at the hotel.|Any unusual alteration or deviation of EXPRESS payment terms must be of concern to a traveller on a long trip . For this reason alone I would reluctantly remove this hotel from my list for future visits to London

I chose a small single room, with en suite shower, that was perfect for my one night stay. It was very comfortable and had everything that I required. All staff were extremely friendly and courteous. A full breakfast (with other options available) was included in the price and was excellent.

I had a small room but it was well laid-out and I had a cozy stay. Comfortable bed and clean bathroom. The breakfast at the restaurant downstairs (included in my stay) was absolutely delightful. The couple who owns this place were such wonderful and welcoming people. It was a pleasure chatting with them at breakfast.||I liked that this hotel is located in a relatively quiet street. Nevertheless, it is close enough to restaurants, supermarkets, and other businesses nearby. Victoria Station is also only a 5-10 minute walk as well. I would definitely consider staying here again the next time I'm in London.

Rooms are a little small. There are stairs if you have luggage. Elevator is tiny and a little sketchy. Nice place though. Within walking distance of pubs and restaurants. Nice neighborhood, friendly staff.

I booked a room for two of us nine months in advance of our 5-night visit to London in August 2024. We were assigned the Big Ben room which is in the basement. I was a little surprised at that, but the room was very comfortable, plenty of space for our luggage, nice big closet, and very clean. The room had plenty of daylight and we heard absolutely no sounds from neighboring rooms or from any rooms above us. There was some street noise from the window, but it was minimal as the hotel is on a quiet street. The room has AC, so we did have the option of closing the window and using the AC; however we both prefer fresh air. The one great advantage to the Big Ben room is that it is 2 doors down from the breakfast room and the elevator. We had to reserve a time slot for breakfast and that was very convenient as we had morning tickets to sights every morning. When we arrived in the breakfast room, a table was already reserved for us. The breakfast was full-service and delicious. The staff were all extremely nice and very helpful. I am grateful to the young lady at the front desk for recommending a transport service to Stansted Airport which was excellent and much less expensive than a taxi would have been. The only issue I had with our room was the bathtub, and that is something I encountered in ten hotels last year all over England - the tubs are deep and slippery. And since I am a senior citizen with a bad back, I am not fond of English bathtubs. A non-skid bathtub mat would be very welcome. Also, for some reason, English tubs have doors that only cover half of the tub. You have to be careful when showering not to get water everywhere; but, that seems to be the hotel standard in England and is not a reflection on the Windermere. The Windermere is about a 10-15 minute walk from the bus & metro Victoria Stations, Westminster Abbey, Big Ben and Parliament. Buckingham Palace is about a 30-minute walk. I would gladly stay at this hotel again. My friend and I had a great stay here.

This review is my biggest challenge for our recent 2 week U.K. visit. We made the Windermere our London base for 1 week. |PROs: The owners - wonderful people, although the older guy can be a little gruff yet charming at the same time. The breakfast - splendid (Make reservations each morning; it gets busy!). The linens & bedding - superb; housekeeping came EVERY day - refreshing our linens and keeping the coffee/tea and toiletries well supplied. |CONs: Room #12 - was a tight fit for the 3 of us and all our luggage. Location - 15 minute walk to Victoria Station got old every day. Fortunately, the taxis all knew this location, which seemed out-of-the-way, as related to the cab fares we paid. In-room amenities - no fridge, no microwave, did have a safe. Personnel - outside of the owner family members, many front desk staff were not cognizant of the local surroundings and not providing accurate guidance to tourists.||The Windermere does come recommended. The owners will treat you well.

My wife and I stayed at the Windermere Hotel last week. I read reviews but am skeptical at times. This time the positive reviews were dead on. The hotel is a quaint inn of just three stories with a restaurant in the basement in a very quiet area and yet it's located just a 15 min walk from Victoria Station, but we were able to walk most places. We took black cabs using the GETT app that the hotel recommended, and both were excellent in getting us to out of the way places like the Airport. If you can walk 2 miles, you can easily get to 90% of what you will want to see in London. The room was comfortable and cozy, wifi was great, Smart TV worked well, although we only watched late at night. The staff were efficient and helpful, and the free breakfast is a full breakfast that was a great way to start the day. The only issue that we had (and not everyone will have it) is that we're seniors and I hurt my knee on the way from the US. The bathtub side was high so getting into and out of the tub was a challenge for us. BUT, even with a bad knee we managed ok. I would, without reservation, stay at the Windermere again if we traveled to London.
