I recently had the pleasure of staying at the charming Woodcote that exceeded all my expectations! From the moment I arrived, I was captivated by the stunning views over the South Downs, which provided the perfect backdrop for a relaxing getaway.

The accommodation was immaculate and very comfortable, boasting high standards that truly made me feel at home. The attention to detail was evident throughout, ensuring a delightful stay in every aspect.

Now, let’s talk about the food—absolutely top-notch! Each meal was a true gastronomic delight, featuring fresh, locally sourced ingredients that made every bite unforgettable. The pub's atmosphere added to the enjoyment of dining, creating a warm and inviting space to savor each dish.

To top it all off, the service was impeccable. Every member of the staff was friendly, attentive, and eager to ensure my experience was nothing short of perfect. Their genuine hospitality made me feel valued and well taken care. A special thanks to the Manager Will Morley and the Head Chef Matt Gillan.

I can't recommend this lovely country pub enough! Whether you're looking for great food, stunning views, or an overall delightful experience, this place has it all. I’m already looking forward to my next visit!

We had a fantastic stay at The Woodcote and can't wait to return in spring. The location is beautiful, set in the heart of the Sussex countryside, and the rooms are comfortable, stylish, and well-appointed.

Dining at the restaurant was a real treat-Matt Gillan's dishes were creative and packed with flavor. He was also very engaging, sharing his passion for food with us. Will, the manager, was an excellent host, ensuring everything ran smoothly and making our stay even more enjoyable.

Every detail was thoughtfully considered, making our stay relaxing and enjoyable.
We're already looking forward to our next visit!

We had a wonderful Sunday lunch at the Woodcote. Exceptional food that feels like fine dining but with an informal, hearty pub angle to it.

The service was really excellent and the staff (particularly Gosia and Will) took the time to chat to us and make us feel very welcome. The chef even came out to the table for feedback on the food which was a lovely touch!

We brought our dog so could have sat in the bar area but opted for the garden which has well-spaced tables and gorgeous countryside views.

We can’t wait to come back and would highly recommend!

From the moment we arrived at The Woodcote Hotel, we were swept into a calm and magical experience that felt like a true escape. Nestled in a stunning location, the hotel offered cosy and comfortable rooms with breathtaking landscape views — the kind that instantly puts your mind at ease and makes you want to stay just a little longer.

What made the stay truly exceptional was the hospitality. General Manager William, along with the wonderful Gosia and Alex, made us feel genuinely special from start to finish. Every detail was thoughtfully taken care of, and their warmth and professionalism created an atmosphere that felt both personal and luxurious.

To top it all off, we had the pleasure of enjoying food prepared by the incredibly talented Chef Matt Gillan. Each dish was a delightful experience — beautifully presented, full of flavour, and clearly made with passion.

This wasn’t just a hotel stay — it was a peaceful retreat filled with beauty, comfort, and kindness. I can’t wait to return.

I've just had the pleasure of staying at The Woodcote for a couple of days whilst travelling around the UK having a break from work in Shanghai. I don’t do reviews generally but this place is special and deserves it.
The location of The Woodcote is in the heart of the beautiful South Downs making it the perfect place to recharge. Will Morley the manager and Alex and the team couldn’t have been more helpful during my stay making everything effortless. The experience is smart hotel level but with the charm of a cosy Country Lodge. The rooms are adjacent to the restaurant in a pretty courtyard and very attractively designed. They are really well appointed with all the luxury bits. I booked a room with a terrace which had stunning uninterrupted views of the South Downs which at the time I stayed had a lovely mist partly covering them making them especially magical. I was advised you can have your breakfast on the terrace and afternoon drinks in sunnier times of the year which would be a must.
I knew The Woodcote had a good reputation for food from my friends which is one of the reasons I booked but Matt Gillan the Head Chef who had just joined was on a level I have only experienced in good Michelin restaurants. Matt was very warm and charming and explained everything about the dishes and the importance of fresh locally sourced food to his creations all of which were delicious and beautifully presented without being unnecessarily fussy. I also enjoyed my evening Margaritas at the bar and Will helped me navigate the extensive wine list.
If you like good food I would thoroughly recommend the restaurant as a destination and the team and rooms make it the perfect sanctuary to stay. I will be back for a stay in the summer to escape city life and I am looking forward to a nice Rose or two on my bedroom terrace taking in the rolling Downs.
