We have the most amazing time at Toadlands Shepherds huts. The attention for detail and quality of the hut was outstanding! Our Host looked after us and genuinely cared that we enjoyed our stay. Thank you so much.

The local pub was lovely and had wonderful pizzas and at Middleton in Teesdale had a great fish and chip shop.

We will certainly be back to Toadlands due to our host and the fantastic time at the hut.

Stayed in the Bill Lunes Hut in February. Such a beautiful, peaceful and private location and the hut has absolutely everything you would need. Jane (the host) is super attentive and helpful and even warmed the hot tub for us on our first night. We had a 10/10 stay and would absolutely recommend to others and hope to stay again soon!

Our stay was nothing short of extraordinary. Jane was an exceptional host—warm, welcoming, and incredibly knowledgeable about the best local spots to visit and dine. The photos truly don’t capture the full beauty of this hidden oasis. The huts are cozy and charming, and the surrounding garden with its tall grasses and wildflowers, adds an enchanting touch that makes the experience even more special. I would highly recommend this countryside retreat to anyone seeking a peaceful countryside escape with breathtaking views. We can’t wait to return!

Despite the rain & gales we spent two wonderful days at Toadlands. The huts are very comfortable, having everything you could possibly need, and are beautifully presented. Our hot tub being lit and ready on arrival was a lovely surprise. It’s a fabulous rural setting, plenty of walks, local market towns, amenities and a cracking local pub serving delicious pizzas! We’d love to come back, with a bit more sun next time.. and some chicken food!

We stayed at Toadlands for 3 nights over the Easter weekend and it was fab from start to finish. Super simple self check-in, great communication from Jane on where to locate the hut and instructions for heating the hot-tub.
The hut is in a great location and we did plenty walking while also driving to the bigger town of Barnard Castle nearby.
Would highly recommend if you are looking for some "me time" or a couple who wants to escape from day to day life - these huts are perfect!

We had the pleasure of staying at No.1 Toadlands this weekend and it was perfect! The hut is spacious, with all the luxury items you could need to truly get away for some much needed rest. The bed is super comfy, the kitchen and dining area had plenty of room and there’s lots of storage under the bed. The shower is lovely and hot and powerful and the hot tub was a real treat. The host Jane was super friendly and helpful and kept the place clean and spotless. Thanks for a lovely stay!

We've just got home from our second stay of five nights at Toadlands (No.1) and don't have enough good things to say about our stay. It's such an idyllic location, surrounded by nature - throughout the day, you'll hear birds, cows, sheep and the occasional duck or chicken; perfect ambient noise if you're spending the day in the wood fired hot tub.

The hut itself is perfectly proportioned, enough space for two people. The bed is so comfortable that you won't want to get out! The kitchen has enough ameneties for preparing meals, and the rainfall style shower is brilliant.

We've now stayed in both winter and spring; in winter with howling winds and sideways rain, you can be perfectly cosy and warm indoors and ignore the weather. The hot tub really is the cherry on top and Jane was in contact during our journey there to make sure it was pre-heated on arrival, a much appreciated personal touch.

The arrival info is thorough about staying at the hut and has additional information about the local area. Personal local recommendations are pizza from Blacksmiths Arms and fish and chips from Middleton.

This really is a gem of a place to stay and we can't wait to come back!

A cosy, beautifully presented and wonderfully hosted getaway. Jane goes above and beyond to make your stay one you'll never forget, we loved everything about Toadlands No.2, so welcoming and warm, comfortable and picturesque and we especially loved the friendly chicken!

We can't wait to visit again!
