What a wonderful week at UpDown cottage!

This is a real gem due to Caroline and Peters love of hosting guests and it really does show. The room was perfect and consistently kept well. My room was cool (in the hot summer) and quiet and had all the things necessary for a comfortable stay. It was clean and well presented and showed a love of hosting guests and an understanding (from experience) on how to look after people and make them feel welcome.

They consistently made me feel most welcome and they bent over backwards to help me. They are a truly lovely couple and I wish them all the best for the future.

The entire week was enjoyable, fun and comfortable and I would love to stay again.

Don't miss this very special B&B if you're travelling to Cornwall this summer. I've stayed here several times over the last year at weekends whilst doing a course nearby. Peter and Caroline are excellent hosts and have always made me feel so welcome with their kind and thoughtful approach. I try a different breakfast every time I go and there's a great selection for vegetarians. The rooms are beautifully decorated and beds exceptionally comfortable. Looking forward to my next trip in September.

Just got back from two very comfortable nights at this wonderful and exceptional B&B. I received a warm welcome from the very attentive and helpful hosts, Caroline and Peter, who seem to really enjoy making their guests feel at home. The house and garden are beautifully presented, the rooms are spotless and everything is high quality - from the tasteful furnishings to the pristine tableware - and the choice and quality of breakfast dishes is superb. Given the quality Updown Cottage offers exceptional value for money and I can't rate it highly enough. Highly recommended.

I was visiting an elderly family friend in the area for two days and, being on my own, was slightly apprehensive as I'm usually more comfortable with the anonymity and standardised offerings of hotels. But I needn't have worried. From the moment I set foot in Updown Cottage I knew I'd struck gold. Caroline gave me a warm welcome and showed me to my immaculate and very comfortable twin bedded room - so unlike the pokey holes often offered to singles by hotels. The en-suite was beautifully fitted out, the towels thick, soft and fluffy and all was totally spotless. The house itself is beautifully designed and tastefully fitted out and furnished, everything being high quality - but not in a pretentious way. This is not a B&B that aspires to be something it isn't - it just naturally oozes the character, comfort and warmth that make it feel a bit special. ||The breakfast menu is imaginative and generous and the food delicious, cooked by Peter (mainly!) while he chats to you from the adjoining kitchen area. It's so much nicer to watch it being cooked specially for you while you tuck in to the fresh fruit salad or cereal, rather than just delivered on a plate from behind a closed door.||Caroline and Peter are exceptional hosts, being very attentive without fussing or being intrusive, and every detail has been thought through for the comfort of guests. In fact it's the attention to detail and personal touches that really add to the feel that guests are valued - the wonderful cream tea scones, the little bar of chocolate left on your bed to greet you in the evening, the bottle of fresh water in the room each day, the friendly and very carefully written messages on well presented notices, and even the personalised bill when you leave. ||I cannot fault Updown Cottage and, given the five star standard of just about everything, it offers exceptional comfort and value for money. A real gem - it surpassed all expectation and I can't rate it highly enough. Next time I visit this part of Cornwall I won't hesitate to make it my first choice place to stay. ||

This was our second visit to UpDown Cottage: both were equally enjoyable and relaxing. You can't fault anything with this B&B, but what makes it really special is the personal touch of Caroline and Peter. They go to great lengths to make your stay as memorable as possible, from the welcome email through useful sightseeing tips to little touches like chocolates in your room or even a farewell booklet depicting nearby places you visited and enjoyed. I could go on but I guess it's hard to describe; it is better to just go and experience it. I reckon they make you feel like you've known and liked them for a while but always remain professional hosts: in my mind, the optimal balance of the best from American and British approaches to hospitality.||||UpDown feels like your best-kept secret: one would think you're staying at an ordinary B&B, but you know it is very special and that you will visit again.||||P.S. Breakfasts are delicious - probably the best we've ever had in a B&B.

We had a lovely short stay here after a family member booked us a room. My husband and I don't often stay in B&Bs but this place was wonderful! The owners made us very welcome from the minute we drove up their driveway. The house was warm, cleaner than anywhere I have stayed before and had lovely decor. The bed was super comfy and the bathroom felt brand new. Breakfast was delicious with oodles of choice and cheer. The pictures online don't do the house and its finishing touches to justice!

My bandmate and I were hosted at UpDown Cottage overnight last week, and after playing the wonderful but tiring last night of our tour - a stay at UpDown and Caroline and Peter’s hospitality were like the best possible reward.|I’ve honestly never experienced hospitality like it in a B+B before. |From the warmest of welcomes in the loveliest house, to THE most comfy bed I’ve ever slept in; from the little details like morning tea/coffee quietly left outside our rooms in the morning to THE most amazing and delicious Cornish breakfast I’ve eaten - I would just say to anyone GO STAY HERE.|Caroline and Peter are absolute gems and the kindest people.|WE WILL RETURN!|Tim & John, The Little Unsaid band.

From the word go Caroline and Peter were incredibly warm and helpful people who love to have guests enjoy the wonderful area and house they live in. They consistently bent over backwards to help me around the area and their generosity and kindness was incredibly touching. Even though I was in town working it felt like a holiday nonetheless. ||||The room, food and house were kept at an incredibly high standard. The conversation, advice and attention to detail were enjoyable and thoughtful.||||They are delightful people who enjoy hosting guests and are amenable to all situations. What are truly wonderful place.
