Wallamhill House B & B - Dumfries

We stayed two nights at Wallamhill House on our way to our holiday and on our way back. The room we had was large with a very comfortable bed and well furnished. We liked the touches of sherry, shortbread biscuits, a fruit bowl, nibbles, fresh milk, flowers in the room, bathrobes. It was great having a fridge in the room. We were a bit taken aback to be asked what time we wanted breakfast and what we wanted within moments of arriving.||||However, our feelings are mixed because of the cleanliness issues. Some of the furniture was very dusty and the carpets and rug hadn't been hoovered. There were cobwebs festooned across the bathroom ceiling and around the windows, and even the front door. The hot chocolate sachets had a best by date of June 2018, and the bottled water was only just in date. On our return visit, the dust and crumbs on the carpet and rug were still there, as was a grape stalk I had left on the table a week previously.||||The breakfast is what prompted me to give a Very Good rating. The selection of fruit and yoghurt was very good, and the cooked breakfast was delicious (though I am sorry we didn't like the haggis!). The coffee was the best I've had for a long time and I asked Margaret for the brand as it was so good. On our return visit we had the extra addition of croissants - maybe because it was the weekend?||||If the place was clean and the hospitality offerings were in date, this could be excellent.

Wallamhill House is in a rural location 3 miles north of Dumfries. When approaching from the north the sign is hard to spot. Lovely approach to the house up a long tree canopied driveway.|We had a very large room, the hi light of which was the canopied bed, not a four poster, but very impressive. It was a super king size.|Sherry and fudge waiting in our room was a nice welcome.|Breakfast was nothing out of the ordinary.|This well run B&B has plenty of parking and a pleasant country outlook.

I would highly recommend "Wallamhill House B&B." I am N.Irish, but live/work in Hong Kong and visit Dumfries occasionally on business. I have stayed at this B&B on a number of occasions during these business trips. The rooms are very spacious, big comfortable beds, all with well equipped ensuite-bathrooms, TV & Internet, etc.

I have also had 4 USA-Relatives stay there and they thoroughly enjoyed it. The breakfast is HUGE and typically Scottish. I am confident you will enjoy their personalised hospitality - good folk!

Don't be put off by the slightly dated decor. I stay in many B&Bs, and Wallamhill House is well up among the best ever. The bungalow is peacefully located amid open countryside, but only a few miles from the town of Dumfries. The bedrooms are large and comfortably furnished. There is also a spacious guest lounge with lovely view over the garden and countryside beyond. The hosts provide many thoughtful little 'extras' - examples include; real coffee and cafetiere, fresh milk in a fridge (not a plastic tube of milk that you can't open without squirting it over your shirt), plenty of cups and glasses, a tea towel, ample toiletries, several biscuits and nibbles, a bowl of fresh fruit... and a glass of sherry. I have already booked to stay again later this year.

Stayed last week for two nights on our way north to see our family.
Very cosy and clean, the breakfasts were great. Margaret and Duncan were lovely hosts.
Had hoped to stay there on the home but were understandably booked but will stay there on our next journey north.

A warm welcome from Gordon he then showed us around, and left us to it. Massive room, with all you need, including a fridge, great as we had sandwiches that evening.||A brilliant breakfast in the morning, which was when we met Margaret, had a good natter with her, again very helpful. We would easily stay here again.

Our first visit to Wallamhill at the suggestion of our friends who have been many times before. Lovely stay.||Gordon and Margaret are wonderful hosts - very friendly and chatty. We feel as if we've known them for years not just a few days.||Stayed 3 nights and our room was beautifully clean, the beds were super-comfy and a lot of nice wee touches that made us feel so welcome. Yes, you have to keep your eyes peeled for the entrance driveway. It's signed as you come from Dumfries but you can go past without knowing if coming from Kirkton. However, once you know it's there...you know. Guests can sit in the very large and comfortable lounge. You can bring your own drinks, no problem at all.||In a lovely setting, breakfast magnificent. Can't say much more except that we will definitely return when next in area.

Had the pleasure of staying 3 nights. Welcomed by Gordon on arrival and shown to our room. Lovely spacious and with a welcome sherry which I couldn't partake in as we....ME...hadn't finished driving.....Quiet peaceful and relaxing with beautiful scenic views. Both Gordon and Margaret are a wealth of knowledge and not much escapes either of them. We hope to return very soon. The Scottish Breakfast is second to none. ....
