I wish I had read the other review before I booked this hotel. We had a very similar experience but worse, if that were at all possible! I booked the Wendover Arms in June for July, but did not receive any confirmation. As it was getting close to the date of my stay, I thought I'd better check. When I rang the hotel, they said they could see I had booked so I asked if they could send a confirmation email. They agreed. Nothing came. I rang again the following day and eventually I received a confirmation email. After a 5 hour drive, my husband pulled up in the car park and noticed that there was a penalty notice for any car that stayed there for longer than 10 mins without registering. As I got to the front desk, I gave my name and was met with, 'Sorry m'aam, we have no record of your booking.' I then produced the email they had sent, confirming my booking, with the reply, 'Sorry m'aam, all our rooms are full.' Obviously, I was not very happy after such a long drive. The man on reception then rang a sister hotel and got me a room there (at a £20 discount - only after my insistence). I then pointed out that we were worried about receiving a parking fine and was told, 'Don't worry m'aam, you are not staying over 10 mins so you will be fine.' Take a guess what happened next... Not only was I booked in to a truly horrible hotel down the road, but a few weeks after our stay, we were sent a parking charge from NPC, saying we'd been in the car park for 11 mins. I immediately rang the Wendover Arms and they pleaded complete ignorance over the whole matter! NPC were not interested either and turned down our appeal as there was no 'evidence' except my word. Please AVOID this hotel like the plague, or if you are forced to stay then park on the road.

Stayed here because it was the only pet-friendly hotel available near our family. Hotel has small double bed and no a/c. It was very hot so we asked for a fan, which they didn’t have, so we borrowed one from family. Didn’t sleep a wink as the fan just moved hot air around. Fam ended up letting us sleep on their floor, instead of spending a 2nd night there. We had a much better sleep. It was clean and pleasant and staff friendly

Hotel needs to decide what it wants to be, rooms are clean but worst 2 nights sleep ever. Customers in the bar have no consideration for guests at hotel we experienced screaming and shouting until early hours of the morning and a punch up in the car park. People smoking cannabis outside back door of bar, that was wafting in our open window which was necessary as rooms very hot. Staff are polite but seem to work extremely long hours. Overall our stay was not an experience I would want to repeat.

The rooms here were of a good space, nice and clean, simple and basic, with quite a big bathroom. Facilities included kettle with tea & coffee, fridge, tv, wardrobe. No air con or fans. The rooms were situated in a separate building from the bar, as such we had no noise problems. There is a private car park at the back. It’s quite a distance from the town centre and train station, took me over 30 mins to walk. The main issue for me was that the beds were hard and uncomfortable, as such I did not get much sleep. Staff seemed friendly enough that we spoke to, we did not use the bar facilities. The cleaning lady was a little over zealous, knocking on the door at 09:00 when checkout was 10:30!

Room 15 was rather cramped.. with the windows overlooking a courtyard.

Until around midnight there was a group of loud men yelling and banging around.. the room stank of weed because of what they were smoking outside.. so had to keep the windows closed.

The bed smelt funny.. starchy maybe but gave me a headache.

Door into the bar is below this room.. it was slamming all night... not ideal.

At 08:00 a builder appeared on the ledge by the window which the bed is pushed right against.. i was laying on the bed in nothing but my pants and had to immediately shut the window.. I then left.

Stayed very last minute and they accommodated me with a room after 9pm. Staff were polite and helpful, room was spotlessly clean, shower was totally amazing! Looks to be a small independent hotel, is it luxury? No! Of course not, but it's price was fantastic, bed was comfy, I had a great nights sleep and for the money, I'll be back! Soon!

I am reviewing the parking and property management company the Wendover Arms hotel use to monitor there car park. I was dropping off my partners son who was booked into the hotel. I failed to register my car as the signs were not noticeable . I received a parking penalty charge of £100. Although i appealed, the parking company nor the hotel were interested and i had to pay the charge. The parking and property management company are only out to make money and not working in the interest of the hotel. Beware

Paper thin walls, uncomfortable and bedding with unhelpful staff who carry out maintenance at 2am. Do not stay here!

Rooms are smaller than university rooms and hotter than the sun with no space to move, we paid for 2 to stay and only give 1 of everything e.g towels, tea cups but strangely 3 pillows (if you can describe them as that).

Pillows and bedding is very uncomfortable and itchy leaving my partner in a rash head to toe.

Walls are thinner then paper so any noise can be heard as though it’s in your room (just hope that unlike us you don’t have screaming kids until 1am and parents watching Bollywood whilst ignoring them as you’ll feel like you’re part of it as well).

Staff also hammering into the early hours causing the whole building to shake.

Overall a terrible nights sleep, all we wanted was a clean bed and a restful night - will find somewhere else next time!
