A beautiful, quiet, back to basics place to stay. If you’re not used to camping life ( no hot water or electricity, cooking outside etc) this won’t be for you. There is no one on site to help you which is fine but they are also very poor at replying to messages. Would also benefit from a simple gas stove to make cooking much easier. Overall, lovely, but with some room for improvement!

Stayed here for husbands birthday. Met on arrival by the owners, who were very helpful and easy to talk to. We stayed in the Houlet Treehouse and the bed was so comfy. We brought our own bedding as they offer a discount when you do so. Overall a great stay, it's very back to basics so don't expect a full-on glamping experience, because it's not. There's a fabulous pub approx 25 mins walk away or a 3 minute drive, the Hollybush Inn in Greenhaugh. You must book ahead if you'd like dinner there. We really enjoyed our stay. Thank you.

Stayed in the Howlet tree house. It was stunning both back to basics and luxury at the same time. The outdoor bath was amazing, an owl watched me as I relaxed one evening, and my daughter was fascinated by lizards in the woodpile. Something very rare to see in the UK.
Secluded is an understatement, we didn't see another guest outside of an authorised event.

We were great fans of Wild Nortumbrian, having had two 2 day breaks pre covid. So we thought we would like to return. However, the bad reviews from last summer caught us by surprise. We knew there had been big changes there leaving only 3 accommadations on site due to the owners moving to a leisure site in the Orkney Islands. We stayed in the Treehouse Yurt in our last visit and through Facebook we were told that we would now have the whole area to ourselves. So we booked and hoped for the best. and we had a most wonderful two days. We arrived at the Treehouse late afternoon & it was freezing so we were so happy to find the woodburner lit & the Yurt really warm when we entered, along with the twinkly lights around the yurt it couldn't have been more welcoming. In fact we could not find fault anywhere. The site is now under new management and the manager was really helpful & genuinely concerned that we kept warm & had everything we needed during our stay.

If you love the outdoors this is a quaint, fun and peaceful place. Wear wellies or walking boots and don't take too much luggage! To get to the yurt you need to walk down a small slope and cross over a rope bridge. It was clean on arrival with a good supply of kindling, firelighters and wooden logs. The decor was beautiful and the bed surprisingly comfortable. The stove heated the yurt well so we didn't feel cold. We were also able to cook breakfast as there was a cooking stove and pans provided. We used the communal kitchen to charge our phones and make a quick coffee in the mornings. As we had read what to do on arrival and studied the map, we didn't need to contact the owners for anything. We were left to our own devices which we appreciated as it is meant to be wild living after all! But the owners are contactable by WhatsApp. I messaged before and after our stay and a response was received quickly on both occasions. Thank you for a brilliant stay we will return!

A fun interesting experience! |A beautiful idyllic site. The yurt interior was fab, the bed amazing and comfy. An experience being off grid but don’t think we could have done more than the 2 nights we stayed. It was a pain having to light fires to boil water and cook. More gas stoves would have been good. |We stayed in the tod yurt and the idea of playing in the river was what attracted us but there was barbed wire along the stream and the river was far too fast and deep for going in! So we were disappointed with that. |We were warned about the mice but they woke us up in the night trying to get in the bin! A lidded bin would have been good. |The plates etc were quite dirty- perhaps a proper wash between guests would be a good idea. |One basket of wood wasn’t enough for 2 nights, so we paid for another basket. Felt that should have been included. |The outdoor bath was worth it all though- what a fabulous experience! |We had a day trip to Hadrian wall which was great.

We stayed in Merle. A pretty interior and a nice location on the edge of the site. The rocket stove was amazing. It made the yurt very toasty very quickly. The composting toilet was a bit of a walk and was really smelly. Not close to the yurt at all. Maybe no bad thing under the circumstances!|Like others we felt that this place is looking tired and now needs more maintenance. Decking needing attention, the rope handrail down the stone steps needed fixing. You got the feeling that the site was being neglected. What a shame. The shower block was ok but only had one loo and two showers! Perhaps it should have been the other way round!|I can imagine this place would work best if two families had adjacent yurts. The kids could roam and the adults could sit round the fire pit and drink wine. Somehow though, it felt a bit depressing to us. Think it needs a revamp.

Amazing, tranquil, perfect! As a family of 5 (kids aged 12, 10 and 7) we managed to fit in the Houlet without problems. It was truly a magical mini break. It's the cosiest most special space to stay with your family or partner. The bed was super comfy and the pretty fairy lights beautiful. Staying in February I was worried about how cold it would be, the stove in the treehouse kept us toastie all evening, the temp just dropped in the night so luckily we'd brought our really thick sleeping bags for the kids (the bedding on double bed provided was super warm). Don't expect anything instant, boiling the kettle over the stove took it's time, but all added to the experience. We sat round the fire pit in the evening, kids made rope swings and explored the woods, we played family games by candlelight in the evening. The sounds of the woods and stream going off to sleep was so relaxing. We're regular campers (though not in Feb) and this felt like luxury, all the great bits about camping but the added bonus of a super comfy bed and warmth from the stove. I feel like I could keep writing. Just perfect, if you like adventure just book it!!!
