Stayed with a group of 50 adults and children for an annual conference. The staff were amazing as usual. Nothing was too much trouble. The managers are so attentive to all that go there. ||The grounds are so beautiful and well kept… a place of tranquility, and when you finish your walk, they do an amazing afternoon tea.||The room I had was huge and well maintained with a fantastic bathroom and plenty of hot water.||The building itself needs a little work in places due to its age but nothing that would spoil your stay. ||The only negative (or a positive to some) is the lack of phone signal throughout the building. You mostly have to go outside to make or receive a call which is fine in good weather but I wouldn’t want to do that during cold wet evenings. ||Thank you to all staff for making our stay enjoyable. Look forward to seeing you next year

Lovely weekend away at this beautiful stately home. |Great location with lovely grounds.|We stayed in a very nice room. With a beautiful bathroom. |The price included breakfast which had a fantastic choice including pastries and a cooked buffet breakfast.|Would highly recommend this hotel and would definitely return.

Came for a dinner and wine evening with bed and breakfast. Staff are great and Chaneltelle did a great job directing everyone despite the larger than usual numbers, wedding and funeral all happening on the same day. Great value and very happy with the service, even for my elderly parents. Will be back soon!

We enjoyed a very peaceful stay at Wortley Hall (there was a charity ball and a private birthday party being held but it did not disturb us at all). |We booked a suite and were given room 53, which is located up a very small tight staircase. Our refitted bathroom was very clean and there was plenty of hot water. The bedroom was as expected and the bed was comfortable. However, the wall-mounted TV was very small, which made viewing tricky. The coffee machine was a nice touch. We didn't eat in the hotel but wandered up to the local pub, which was excellent.|The only disappointment was the view from the bedroom. We'd booked a garden view room but were allocated a rooftop view room which made our room quite dark but apparently this is an issue with booking.com. So I would recommend reserving a room directly with the hotel.

Attended a wedding in September and stayed the whole week. Stunning venue to get married with beautiful scenery and attentive staff. Very tranquil and relaxed, with Sheffield only a 15 minute drive down the road. Would highly recommend.

I’ve visited Wortley during three seasons now, and the place never fails to look spectacular, with it phenomenal backdrop of the Peak District, and their majestic gardens, which always look well tendered.|Once in this grand building, you can let your imagination run riot, imagining what it was like all those years ago!|Yes, like all historic buildings, it needs a little tlc, but this is happening gradually. Being a non profit making venture, they are indeed working extremely hard to implement these changes.|Staff are alway efficient and friendly, the bedrooms extremely clean, and breakfast was fabulous and plentiful.|Full marks yet again to a team that work extremely hard to make your stay memorable.

Let me start by saying I’m writing this at 11:49pm on the 1 night of my stay.
I booked this as a little treat for myself, ‘a peaceful night away from home’ thought I. Oh what a mistake that was.
Whilst the grounds are absolutely picturesque & charming, that is the absolute only reason I could possibly give it 2 stars.
The check in process was simple enough, so once sorted and had a beautiful walk and some lovely food in a nearby pub. I’ve now ‘settled’ into my room (room is okay, nothing to shout home about considering the price I paid) to chill and get a rest before my long drive back home tomorrow.
However; what anyone failed to tell me was there would be a hoard of elephants in the form of bass speakers tearing through my room all evening from what I can only assume is the wedding event reception that is currently taking place.
I have been trying for a few hours to get to sleep now, absolutely impossible with the noise going on. I’ve tried to phone through to reception to enquire when the music will stop, no one answers. It’s coming up to midnight now, and I prey this incredibly loud music stops soon. If not, I’ll be packing up in the middle of the night and leaving.
I’d have had a better nights sleep at home.
Rm 40 for anyone staying in future.

We attended a wedding which was fantastic, the location is stunning with beautiful views across the open countryside. The staff were brilliant but they all appeared under pressure as there simply didn’t seem to be enough of them to cope with a full hotel. The wedding was brilliant, delicious food at the wedding breakfast and again in the evening reception. The bar staff worked tirelessly to keep everyone supplied with drinks but again a few extra on duty would have helped.
The room we had was however way below standard and did not reflect the £145 a night paid, the light was full of dead flies, the decor was at least 20+ years old as it was the same paper we bought in 1997 and the ceiling full of water marks and cracked plaster. There was no latch on the door lock so with only one key and someone in the shower you couldn’t get in to your room. The curtains were hanging off the pole and looked ready to fall down at any moment.
When we used the restaurant three of our choices on the menu were not available, as they had run out, and after ordering our 4th choice it was nearly 45 mins for three burger and chips !
I fully understand the immense cost of running a former stately home, just the heating and lighting must be a huge cost, however for a £145 a night and £70 for burger & chips x3 and a pint and two cokes there is a lot better available but clearly the convenience of being in the wedding venue is a deciding factor.
I hope that the place gets a cash injection from a wealthy investor to bring the rooms up to the right standard to match the beautiful location and the tireless work the staff put in the make the couple and their guests wedding such a wonderful day. I overheard two young waitresses saying they came in at 10:00 am and were then asked to stay on till the event finished at 1:00 / 2:00am .

So to the management of the place, the buck stops with you, your staff were brilliant, they were friendly and polite and worked incredibly hard but you didn’t have enough people in place and you are placing unnecessary pressure on your people, they will not remain focused on their guests if you do not have the right level of resource in place.
You have a beautiful place that could be the best wedding venue in the area but please get it up to scratch to justify your room / restaurant cost!
