Could be so much better. Location is excellent, lovely village and great walks from the doorstep. The staff were very nice. Our room was good apart from the broken handle on the toilet which it turns out they were already aware of. Also the nice fire in the library wasn't in use which made the room cold as only a couple of oil filled radiators. With some money spent this could easily be a great hostel all round.

It's a yha so expect basic bedrooms. Self catering available and they have a bar and serve food as well from a great menu. Fabulous walking from the door and the building is beautiful. Hartington is lovely. Worth getting a pastie or pie from the small shop down the hill for your walks. Couple of pubs and a great cheese shop also to be found in Hartington.

Beautiful old medieval building with tons of character. Very warm and cosy in our Barn accommodation block. Kitchen very clean and tidy. A very warm welcome from Jack and the team at reception. We did two of the advertised walks to Pilsbury which were very enjoyable. WiFi in the main areas but not everywhere. Highly recommend.

People parked in Disabled bays without blue badges, turned out to be staff. They do this to stop public leaving their cars there all day and going off walking! I managed to get a spot. If there's are ever full on your visit, pop in and check if it's staff, they will move for you. Otherwise, parking is a little walk.
Dogs allowed in certain spots, unfortunately not in rooms.
Food was good.

The housee itself is gorgeous, with interestingly confusing layout. The room that we had was good, good sized and thankfully en-suite. The grounds are lovely. The staff were helpful. Our kids loved that there were farm cats around and could hear the cattle. ||The only downsides I can think of was that they self-serving kitchen was in a seperate building, and it was always busy. The car park was a bit of a free-for-all.||But all in all, would very happily stay here again.

Busy hostel, speaks for its popularity. Slightly out of village, car park and some on road parking.
Bar/ cafe and self catering kitchen. Various sized rooms and camping pods. Good views.

We went to hartington youth hostel a few years ago just before christmas and it was amazing. It had a log fire and carols were being sung and it was so warm. We thought we would return this year and have just come back but it was totally different. The place was cold and the lounge dull, no roaring fire or atmosphere. We sat in our coats. Apparently it will cost loads to have the damaged flue mended, but without a fire there's no heart in the place, even a temperature lig effect electric fire would have helped. Also they seemed very short staffed and struggling with breakfast and everything. It's such a shame but we won't be returning, at least until they get a fire sorted .
