I stayed at the York Pavilion hotel with my wife in April 2025.

We arrived early, around 10.00am, to ask about the check in process on 27th of April (We were not due to check in until around 3.00pm, as per the hotel's rules).

The initial interaction with the lady at the front desk could've been more pleasant and friendly to be honest. She was perfectly good with the customers whom she was serving before us, but when it got to our turn, it didn't feel as if the welcome was as pleasant sadly.

Unfortunately, the hotel charge fifteen pounds per day for parking - even for paying guests who are staying at the hotel. This was really, really disappointing to be honest, especially when there was plenty of parking space available at the hotel (Although that might be because people are not parking there due to the extortionate costs of fifteen pounds per day).

The room we stayed in was okay/fine, without being amazing unfortunately. To be truthful, the hotel seems to lack a wow factor. It is an old fashioned establishment, which could do with some modern improvements.

For example, there is no thermostat in the rooms. This was particularly frustrating as the weather was very warm during our stay. There is a window in the room which can be opened, but this didn't make much difference sadly.

The rooms can get quite humid sadly.

Also, when we asked for a fan, one was provided thankfully - but it was such a weak fan that it barely made any difference at all, if any.

Another thing which can be improved in the rooms please is that the lighting is not great - either in the main area or the room, or the bathroom (This was disappointing, especially when trying to shave and/or apply make-up respectively).

There are some good things about the hotel too of course. The wi-fi is very, very good, and the TV in the room was a smart TV which meant that apps like Netflix could be played thankfully.

Furthermore, the breakfast was good as well.

Unfortunately, one of the biggest missing features of the room is that there is no fridge in it. This was really frustrating, especially when the weather is warm.

Overall, the stay was okay/decent, without having any wow factor at all sadly.

The staff were helpful and okay, but nobody seemed to go above and beyond in terms of customer service.

Thank you so much.

Unique and quirky lovely hotel perfectly situated close to the city centre, with a bus stop close by, buses being every ten minutes in peak times, or a half an hour walk. The hotel clean and tidy, decor a bit tired in places, nevertheless we were delighted with our room which was very comfortable with a lovely four poster bed and sofa, with adjoining bathroom. Warm welcome received from a very pleasant receptionist. Breakfast was excellent, I enjoyed the freshly cooked offerings, as well as the continental selections, the granola was especially delicious, some items like bread on the menu were freshly cooked! The attentive bar and waiting staff couldn’t do enough to make sure you were happy! Indeed staff a credit to the hotel. There were daily charges for car park, if used of £15.00. We had a wonderful four night stay in Room 5, which was totally relaxing!

First time staying at the Pavilion Hotel York, and it certainly wont be the last, beautiful country house hotel, with beautiful grounds and interior, first impression of walking in the door was a very clean and welcoming place, Staff were very friendly, welcoming and polite, nothing was to much trouble. Our room was on the ground floor which really suited me as i had just recently had a knee operation and was worried about the stairs. (I had previously emailed the hotel to request this) our room was bright clean and well decorated beds were comfortable and the room was lovely and warm. Breakfast was beautiful very good selection cereals, fruit, yoghurt danish pastry, full English (bacon could have been cooked a bit more, looked a bit undercooked) plus more choice on the menu. overall a very good weekend away busses stop outide the hotel every 10 minutes to York and its only 10 minutes to York designer outlet. We have always stayed in the city when visiting York, but now the Hotel Pavilion will be our first choice.

The hotel has a natural charm albeit aged it is everything I expected, true there are areas that could be improved, mainly around the bathroom facilities but overall I found the levels of service offered by all of the staff more than made up for the minor problems. The cleaning of all areas including rooms and common areas was very good, the tables in the bar area are a little close together but fortunately the hotel wasn't over busy so didn't really affect us. The food was in my opinion very good and service was again first class, with the staff members all readily available to help, I will most certainly return|Steve gorman

The hotel was a little way out from the middle of York, actually in Fulford. It took us about 30/40 minutes to walk to the Shambles. Although I understand there is a bus. The walk along the river Ouse to the centre of York was very pleasant and starts from opposite the hotel. The room was comfortable and breakfast good. However please be aware that there is a £15 per day or part day charge to park in the Hotel car park and as we were staying for two nights it cost us £30. We did complain about this as when we booked through Best Western we were unaware of the charge, which an extra directly paid to the Hotel. We were told it was on their website, which we hadn't seen as we made our booking via Best Western through an email offer. The Hotel then insisted on following up their point the next day by leaving an A4 letter with attachments on our bed highlighting where the car park charge are on various websites including their own and Best Western main website just to prove their point. This was totally unhelpful as we used Best Western's direct booking system, and quite frankly went too far! Our our time away was now totally spoilt! I cannot recommend the Hotel due to their insistence in proving a point, hence the poor rating.

I cannot fault this hotel - the staff are all very friendly & welcoming. We were upgraded on our original room booking to a very nice room with a balcony. A very relaxed environment. We would definitely stay again.
