We have just got home from a 2 night stay.
We can't fault it at all. The bedroom was clean with tea and coffee making facilities. The bed was one of the comfiest I have ever slept in. A lovely view over the square from the window.
We had breakfast 2 mornings and a meal one evening. Well worth the money and delicious.
All the staff were friendly.
Big thank you to James and Vicky for making us feel so welcome.
Will definitely be back soon.

The Sunday lunch was at best disappointing. My roast potatoes and Yorkshire pudding were burnt when they came out, so I complained and got better looking potatoes but they were not cooked. To be fair the meat was nice, though I think my turkey was not from a joint! There were only 3 puddings on the menu - and the one we wanted was not available as they had sold out, which seemed fairly extraordinary! When we ordered lemon meringue pie it took about 20 minutes for it to come to the table - it was nice, but was obviously bought in. No one asked us if we were enjoying our meal or asked for any feedback at the end when we paid. We did not leave a tip, and frankly would not come back or recommend it!

Called in for a couple of drinks 3 days in a row just to watch the world go by. Drinks were good and reasonably priced until the last round which I only noticed the following day when I checked my online banking. For some reason we were charged £16.50 when it had been £12.50. Hate being ripped off

Stopped by for a drink and a bite to eat after visiting the forbidden corner today. The pub was lovely and warm with three fires going! Really cosy and nicely decorated inside. The food was lovely and hearty and really warmed us all up. Definitely one to stop at if you find yourself in the area. Staff were friendly too!

When we stay somewhere we rate being made to feel welcome the highest. You are definitely welcome at this hotel. The staff are lovely and cannot do enough going over and above to please. Meals are generous, and excellent quality. Be sure to book as people were queueing when we were there. It is a dog friendly hotel and that added to its country charm for us. It is a very old building with nooks & crannies, mismatched furniture & lovely fairy lights adorn wood beams. It has true yorkshire atmosphere woven throughout its bars and eating areas. Parking is free and you will see and hear amazing racehorses riding along the cobbles. There is a huge and beautiful castle to view in this authentic North Yorkshire town. We had a wonderful stay!

Lovely, helpful staff. I was just passing through but the staff could not have been more helpful. Middleham itself is a lovely hiking location and the pleasant welcome made the visit even better. Very happy overall with my short stay at Richard III.

Great hotel, very very welcoming. Staff cannot do enough. Food amazing, but book because people queue to eat here. Lovely old North Yorkshire hospitality with the addition of being able to see and hear beautiful racehorses right outside your bedroom window. Highly recommend

We were staying in the village and this pub was top of the recommendation places to eat and said it's good idea to book for Sunday lunch because it gets busy, which we did. Plus they serve big portions.|So we went and had Sunday lunch. |There didn't seem to be a mass queue outside or reserved signs on tables. Turned out we could sit anywhere. Ordered our drinks at the bar. The staff then take your order at the table. My husband ordered Roast Pork and I had small portion of scampi. It would've been nice to have hot plates. You avoid getting the usual 'cold pub peas' |Mine came first.|Then the roast dinner came in 2 parts. |First a plate with the Roast pork and Yorkshire pudding. The next delivery was the vegetables, in a dish with 2 Roast potatoes, carrots and a bit of leek in cream sauce. Then gravy in silver pourer. All this on a chopping board. |One of the many ways of serving Roast dinner in a pub. No fancy presentation for me. Overall average size portions and pub food. One of the many places to eat though not one of the top.
