We booked a 2 night stay at this hotel direct, my first mistake. Had I booked through booking.com etc I may stand a chance of getting every penny back! We arrived around 4pm very rushed due to an event we were attending. As soon as we parked we should have got straight back in the car. Grubby and uncared for from the outside! On entering my initial thoughts were oh gosh what have I booked! Shown to the room (14) on opening the door the carpet was dirty with an iron imprint.. skirting board and sockets filthy and wall paper lining peeling. All decor filthy, peeling, grubby.. dressing table stool stained..Bed dressings were absolutely minging, as were the pillows. The towels were thread bare…We dumped the bags and left to get on with our day. I waited outside for our taxi literally feeling sick at the thought of spending 2 nights in that room! We came back late, I refused to undress to sleep in that bed which creaked beyond words, the stench in the room was horrific. I lay down and eventually calmed myself enough to sleep. 4 hours later I was up.. I woke heaving for 10 minutes at the stench and absolute filth that faced me in the bedroom and in the bathroom. Thick mould surrounded the entire shower. I very quickly washed which actually made me feel dirtier and we packed our cases and stormed out the back door! We booked another hotel for our 2nd night! Never in my life have I seen such a filthy, unfit hotel room!! The owner should be ashamed and reported! There is absolutely no way this hotel should be open and accepting paying guests. I have sent an email requesting a full refund! No answer yet.|Please, please do not waste a penny here! And before anyone does suggest anything regarding old buildings, I have stayed in a fair few in and around Bath and accept certain aesthetic issues.. this hotel was pure grime and filth.. star option is zero and should be marked in red warning!|Note - we were that annoyed and I felt that ill we did not approach the front desk. I’m not a rude person but on this occasion I felt that I would have left extremely distressed after confronting the manager/owner so we walked away to avoid raised voices at the expression of our disgust

We had a last minute stay in Bath and were looking for an affordable, decent hotel close to bath but not in the centre. We found it with the Wentworth House Hotel.

From the free parking, late-ish (arrived in darkness) welcome after a long drive and some good directions to our forward destination we knew we'd chosen well.

Yes, there are some low star reviews for this establishment but I wonder if they picked the wrong hotel. If you're looking for swish, silver service with mints on your pillow and uniformed staff - keep looking. If you're looking for a clean, good, honest 'head down tummy full' stay, they this is perfect. Which brings me on to the breakfast - splendid stuff. Freshly cooked (they asked what time we'd be sitting down for it so it could be timed perfectly), it was hot, tasty and plentiful. And oh my, that sausage...

So in list form and to conclude - free parking, lovely building, well kept facilities, a bar, good size room (with toiletries), a fabulous view, friendly welcome, excellent breakfast and just 15 minutes walk to the centre of Bath. (Take the bus back - a tip from another review and well worth doing - it's a long hill after a big meal).

We spent two nights at Wentworth House for my partner's birthday.||||I opted for the Prosecco on arrival and it was literally delivered to the room, ice cold, within a minute. ||||The host was extremely welcoming and spoke to us regularly at the desk to see whether we'd had a nice day. ||||The room was very comfortable and exactly the right temperature (which is impressive on its own given the UK's ever-changing climate). The pillows were nice and firm and honestly the bed in general was extremely comfortable (we had a four-poster bed). ||||Literally the only tiny comment I would make is that the water pressure in the shower was quite low - but with it being a Georgian building, I suspect there are limits to the amount of internal work that can be carried out to fit upgraded plumbing - and to be honest this was outweighed by the fact that the hotel had free parking, which is almost unheard of in Bath.||||I would most definitely stay again without hesitation.

We found the hotel was in a good location and we were met and booked in by a very nice man who was pleasant, friendly and gave good advice.|However the rest of our stay was not pleasant. We were discouraged from having breakfast there although we did book it for the first morning and we were sorry that we had. The milk and juice were uncovered, the water urn was filthy, some of the bread was mouldy, the coffee was undrinkable and the it was a standard English breakfast with no options to change anything and no offer was made to accommodate preferences.|The room was not clean, there was a toenail under the bed, cobwebs were visible, the bathroom bin was rusty, the shower curtain was torn, the plug for the bath did not fit. The window did not fit properly causing a draught and making the room cold.|Some windows were in need of repair, the handrail to the garden from the back door was unsafe and some of the outdoor seating was unsafe and needed repair and treatment, the swimming pool is unusable - totally uncared for and definitely not fit for use.|The main proprietor told us that rooms were not serviced during the stay despite having been told that we could request this by the other gentleman. After we insisted he agreed to our request but only emptied the bins and change the towels and replaced the toilet rolls, the room was not cleaned in any way.|Overall the property is in serious need of renovation.

Book the double room if you like tepid showers and don't need a WiFi connection.|Front desk lovely and decor was fine, despite room being dusty and smelling like cigarettes. Could've looked past it all with a half-decent shower and internet though. Overall disappointing despite the competitive price.

We stayed in the superior room, and unfortunately, it was not cleaned prior to our arrival. The bedding and towels were used. The cups were used and not washed. The bins weren’t taken out. The lack of cleaning was appalling. For the cost as well! Would have preferred to have stayed at a hostel, rather than stay at this place again.

Interesting was the word of the weekend.|On arrival we were told where best for breakfast which I found strange when they offered it in hotel at 13 quid.|our room was up 2 flights of stairs and looked dirty and strange decor.|The shelf in bathroom was falling off wall.|The toilet struggled to flush.|The shower was cold and short of power.|No change of towels or daily clean.|looking out of window we over looked the pool which had not been used for years.|I dont mean to be a snob but this was not cheap.|It certainly needs an up grade and clean.|How it is allowed to stay open surprises me especially health and safety certificates.|The only good thing was free car park and not to far to walk into the city.|I hope people really look at reviews before booking.|I dont like being critical but some people save hard to do these trips.

Not as bad as they say. Great location very comfortable bed. Good for the money.
